30/09/26 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Post by jimallen »

Hi, here's the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 30 September - we welcome your comments!

NOT ENOUGH HANDS? NOT OUR PROBLEM!
These Processing shifts starting at 11.45 pm, two
days per week and midnight three days per week,
need to go! We know that managers want to
extend the shift in the morning as long as
possible, so that they can send us to clear Tracked
24s. But why should we help them fill the gaps
they've created by cutting our jobs?

START, SORRY, STOP
And why on earth have these bright sparks given
us variable start times anyway?! Some of us have
weeks with 3 different shift starts and 3 different
finish times! It's the best way to make a mess of
our daily schedule! Where are the regular shifts
we used to have ages ago? We want them back!

TRACKED WHEN YOU'RE LUCKY
Managers in Processing have been offering
overtime 6-10am to get the T24s cleared... but
many of us have refused. Our night shifts are
long enough as it is! Plus, who in their right mind
would come early to help managers out of their
mess? They can solve the issue by renaming
Tracked 24 to Tracked 72!

NO TO KILLER OT
By the way, Processing managers have the cheek
to offer overtime - and then we're supposed to
call an hour beforehand to make sure it's still on
offer! You cannot make this up! One more
reason not to work their overtime.

NOT-SO-FAST!
In the past "reserves" were allocated to a specific
Processing area - but this is not happening any
more under these "realignments". Instead, we're
meant to cover any job at all. We don't
necessarily mind doing different jobs, what we do
mind, is managers expecting us to adapt in half-asecond
to a new duty.

DONE OUR TIME
Thanks to these "realignments" that apply to only
a few duties (unlike a resign), we end up having
no real choices... We're presented with the worst
jobs - on weekends or nights - and that's that!
Even with decades of seniority, we aren't offered
those little-less-tiring duties. We did not agree to
these "realignments" in the first place! Out with
them!

WE WON'T BE DIVIDED
In most Processing areas, managers are picking
on certain workmates. This has to stop. Yes, it's
their very crude attempt at "divide and rule", but
we will not allow it. In fact, with their petty
targeting, they've managed to unite us even
more.

ILLITERATE MANAGERS
Management insisted that we fill in the "have your
say" survey in June, so that it looks good for
them... but did they read it themselves? One part
said that "at Royal Mail", everyone is "treated
fairly and equally". Yep, really...

MAKING US P**D OFF
On the Parcel Sorting Monster, The Lates
Manager insists we ask him personally if we can
have permission to go to the toilet! Well, he
might decide against acting like a kindergarten
teacher, if we line up (accordingly!) and ask
"please to go", in a chorus, all at once...

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 9
There's a poster at the entrance advertising
"career opportunities" in Central Postal Control
(RM's Logistics and Operations). But if managers
want to train some of us to "step in" to CPC, it's
only because they're very short of hands there as
well! When the M6 was closed last week due to
an overturned HGV which spilled grain over both
carriageways, those of us in CPC had to try to find
solutions for so many Distribution drivers, it was
like mission impossible!

THEIR CHEAP "AI" TOOL
RM's "early access recruitment for seasonal
sorters" software... is causing big problems for
workers applying for Xmas temp jobs. The "UCheck"
tool rejects most file formats as "illegal file
types" and it can't "recognise" names from ID
documents, telling applicants that these don't
match our bank statements. This isn't Artificial
Intelligence, but Real Stupidity, courtesy of RM
bosses' cheapness!
