As Boxing Day falls on a Saturday. Does anyone know if we get the Saturday off? As I’ve noticed that on the Robin app calendar, it shows it as a working day, as publicly Monday is the substitute day for the Boxing Day!

Hey all!,
As Boxing Day falls on a Saturday. Does anyone know if we get the Saturday off? As I’ve noticed that on the Robin app calendar, it shows it as a working day, as publicly Monday is the substitute day for the Boxing Day!

If it's on Sat, it's usually a non- service day. Which means what it says, RM suspend all operations and you get the day off.
This has to be agreed by RM and Ofcom though. In the past, not a problem. Nowadays who knows.

That is what's happened in the past but RM is a different animal now.
Fairly sure they will have people in on Sunday 28th
I think it was agreed that they don't have to ask for a non service day not that it will be a non service day

We will be off boxing day and the Monday because boxing day is on a Saturday.

Saturday 26th is not a Bank Holiday because you can't have a Bank Holiday on a weekend. Monday 28th is the substitute day so we are definitely off then.
Do you think the current RM will give us a free day off?

They probably want at least skeleton staff in delivering Tracked, particularly if Amazon decides that it's a normal service day for their staff?

Well xmas day 2027 falls on Saturday so if I'm not right then I guess we will all be working xmas day as you cant have a bank holiday on a Saturday.

An exception to Royal Mail’s universal service obligation - no requirement for deliveries and collections when 26 December falls on a Saturday.
Section 4
4 Ofcom’s assessment of Royal Mail’s request
Recommendation
4.1 Ofcom is minded to accept Royal Mail’s request for an exception to the universal service collection and delivery for:
• Saturday 26 December 2015, and
• when 26 December falls on a Saturday in future years, e.g. in 2020, until further notice.

Date: 2nd December 2015

Branches will also wish to note that Saturday 26th December has been sanctioned as a Non USO/Non Service day for Royal Mail by Ofcom. This means that there will be no deliveries or collections on that day.
However, it is not deemed to be a Bank or Public Holiday. The Bank Holidays fall on Friday, 25th and Monday, 28th December. There will be no days in lieu granted for staff not due to attend on the 26th.
This is the reason why Royal Mail supported by the CWU made an application to Ofcom for a Non USO/Non Service day. The application was then put out to public consultation and at the end of the consultation Ofcom made a decision to grant the non USO/non service day. They also agreed that this would continue in future when the 26th falls on a Saturday.
With regard to the 26th December, non Service/USO day Para 3.2 confirms the joint commitment that for Inland operations where staff are required to attend it is on a voluntary basis with any shortfall made up by use of other resourcing options. It should be noted however that the expectation is that the requirement to attend will be very low and staff who do attend will be paid at SA rate for all hours worked on the 26th December.
