38 Deg in Van at the moment.
Been told for tomorrow and Thursday its delivery as normal.
Priorities are specials and Tracked 24hr.
Apart from that stay safe amd do as much as possible.

Thanks then
“Delivery as normal” for tomorrow and Thursday?!? That’s not only crazy, but dangerous.

I dont understand the logic of closing schools when the kids are wandering around shopping centres or worse swimming in rivers and jumping off bridges ?
Surely classrooms whilst uncomfortable are hardly dangerous.
And postmen expected to continue outside in extreme heat ?

I'm not sure just concentrating on Tracked etc is the norm yet? We've been told to deliver as much as we can before it gets too hot.

In the areas covered by the red warning, ALL deliveries AND ALL collections should be suspended for the day. I expect in practice it's down to what local management want.

Makes a good sound bite but what are you going to do next year when the heatwave is hotter and longer?
And the year after that.
This isn't going to go away. We have to learn to manage it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

MCs getting the mail to DOs earlier won't be an option as it would need to arrive at the inward MCs earlier.

The Met Office issues red warnings for conditions it designates as risk to life. Anyone in one of those areas should be well aware of the warning in place and what it means. Deliveries must, not should, be suspended for the duration of the warning. Any instruction to the contrary places itself beyond the debability of reasonable or unreasonable instructions and into the realm of the legal. Anyone stupid enough to adhere to a blatantly unreasonable instruction in those conditions also places themselves at liability. The company is happy to throw you under the baking hot sun, and if you come to harm it'll be just as happy to throw you under the bus.
The machine stops.

Pretty sure we all had to work during the summer of 2022 when it hit 40 degrees across the UK, so I'm not surprised they aren't suspending deliveries for 35 degrees.

The worst thing about it is if your office didn't have hundreds of bottles of water ready and clearly available ready for this heatwave from Monday morning onwards....cos ours did not.

Already 30° inside and out here. One van has Aircon. 50 staff. Three of us stayed in because of underlying health issues everyone else sent out with tracked and 1st class. Some van shares 200 tracked. Our van share tracked passed onto a newbie has 180. Asked in front of whole office who had health problems. Not allowed back into office unless you feel ill. No sign of a risk assessment. No reference to Gov guidelines nor red alert for our area. 😞
