Hi, here's the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 27 May... comments welcome.
LET THEM GO BANKRUPT!
In the last week for voting on the CWU/RM
"agreement", union officials are still trying to
convince us to vote "yes"!! On Royal Mail Chat,
Wishy Walshy "reminds" anyone who cares to read
his boss-speak that "the threat to the future of Royal
Mail is very real"… So, an extra argument to put renationalisation
back on the agenda?!
POLLY WANTS A CRACKER?
Wishy Walshy goes on to write that this deal will
only "save" £250 million for the company, not the
£400 million they originally wanted... But we're
against one penny of such "savings", i.e., cuts. And
we're against parrots like him.
THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING!
The result of the vote is due this Friday. Of course,
many of us already voted NO. But this ballot isn't
"binding" anyway - i.e., EP Group doesn't even have
to pretend to abide by the result! Anyway, whatever
the outcome of this "ballot", we know very well that
their race to the bottom with our wages and
conditions will only be stopped if we go on strike...
IT'S UNWORKABLE ANYWAY!
In fact, the "new" CWU/RM delivery model "DM26"
already started in a number of DOs last week... And
DUMs are going to try to "pilot" it in 240 more
offices regardless of the outcome of the vote. But
we can, and will, refuse to work it!
WE MISS OUR WAYS!
The union officials made a video explaining how we
should vote online, saying that this is what all the
other unions do... They would really hate it if we
went back to the time-honoured method of holding
mass meetings, discussing our demands and
deciding things there and then, together, with a
show of hands!
WE KNOW HOW TO STOP THEM
We know Processing managers are preparing for
what they call a "realignment" - we just don't know
when (August?). We also know that they're going to
try and cut more jobs. They're preparing for the
next round of attacks - we need to prepare our
response!
EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK!
It's obvious Processing managers want more of us
working on weekends, so they can cut the number
of weekend casuals. And they don't care if it means
there's shortages of workers during the week,
because they'll just bring the casuals in then, instead
- on cheaper weekday pay rates! OPGs can, of
course, refuse to work alongside anyone who isn't
paid an equal rate for the job, whether on weekdays
or weekends...
MAKES US WANT TO THROW UP!
Sometimes the Platform feels like a roller-coaster.
Most of the time, the number of Yorks is endless,
but then sometimes, the numbers drop suddenly,
like they did a couple of days last week. Was the
workload diverted elsewhere, so that workmates in
other MCs could experience the joy of MP's up-down
roller-coaster?
PUT IT IN A MUSEUM!
The scan in/out system is a mess: after scanning our
cards, it tells us we’re good to go when sometimes,
in fact, it hasn’t registered the scan at all. So that’s
it! We can just as well stop using this clock-in/clock-out
system, which comes straight out of Victorian
times and doesn’t even work properly anyway!
LET'S CANCEL HIS BONUS
Wanna-be King Etcetera's yapping is non-stop. He's
trying as much as he can, to push us to get through
piles of letters. And all because he's desperate to
get his bonus this year (and a pat on the head from
his masters)... But the more he barks, the slower
our pace: he should know that by now.
BRAINLESS
We all know that the mis-sorts in PSA are the
managers’ own doing. They move us from one area
to the next, almost every day, expecting us to switch
from one duty to another - and to do it fast! Yup,
they manufacture chaos and then dare to protest
the(ir) mistake!
ICED DRINKS MANDATORY!
It's boiling in here and the air-con doesn't reach
some areas. As for the ventilators, well they're
blowing hot air during the hottest part of the day!
The very least we could expect is a trolley of iced
juice (or even squash) - as there always used to be if
it got super-hot. What's more, regular heat-relief
breaks - as needed - should be mandatory. This
heat in May is unprecedented.
"EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT" - NOT INTERESTED!
The employee survey is being pushed by managers
again - and this time they want us to fill it in on the
Robin app… whoop-dee-doo! If they want us to
"have our say", we are happy to oblige, but not on
paper but in person, collectively.

There's air conditioning in the Mount now?!
We used to get a drinks trolley come round with plastic cups of orange/lemon squash when it got hot. We didn't have air-con.
The squash didn't help to feel any cooler.
