A Few things to consider !
When voting !
1. USO reform is not optional. Ofcom changed the regulations on 28th July. Royal Mail are granted a licence by Ofcom to deliver the USO , they are currently operating outside that licence. The company has commercially and lawful commitments and this cannot continue. Hence why they activated the Dispute Resolution Process in January.
2. Voting no will not result in the status quo. It is more probable to lead to executive action and the CWU will have to react to any imposition.
3. Voting no , will not mean that you suddenly don’t have 4 into 3 , it is more likely to mean that you get 4 into 3 without the extra 3500 walks, the 20 thousand rural and firms routes having their work recorded and without 6000 part time to full time uplifts.
4. Voting no will likely mean you won’t have a resign which is in the agreement , or the option to select the duties in your unit or keep your Wallingtons.
5. Voting no will mean that there is no protection from compulsory redundancies as there is no agreement and that new entrants would not be entitled to MTSF as the agreement has been rejected.
6. Voting will mean that you work the ODM model with all the mail being delivered by the van sharing pair Monday to Friday and the singleton driver doing first class and parcels for two duties. As opposed to the heavy and light model of DM26.
7. DM26 has downdialed the saving from ODM. 20% of routes taken out of scope.3500 walks back in.The opportunity for 6000 new full time jobs. A no vote stops all of that but it does not stop USO reform.
8. There is no magic money tree. This company is facing a cross roads , letter decline and customers downgrading to economy alongside parcels growing but revenue from parcels falling due to every other operator employing self employed drivers which get paid a price per parcel but not a wage, no pension , no holiday , no sick pay.
9. Voting no may seem a good idea and may get a few likes , fist emojis and some good comments but it is the road to oblivion and there is no way this union can allow Royal Mail to impose change or walk away totally from equalisation.
10. The risk is also in 3 years when the legal guarantees are up for review that EP and Royal Mail decide that the 11% of mail which is actually USO traffic will be delivered by a much reduced level of employees and everything else parcels and tracked by self employed drivers.
The stakes are higher than they have ever been and I would seriously ask you to not be taken in by political parties who are not elected only have an agenda of progressing their parties beliefs , have never fought for the members or by individuals who hide behind anonymous names who may not even work for the company. Don’t let those influence your vote especially those are not prepared to fight any executive action which will follow.for the company ,

Deliveries, without the extra 3,500 walks being put back in and the 6000 staff going from part time will it avoid being a clusterfuck or just be less of a clusterfuck?

I take it the vote is not going well then
It's funny how "the stakes get higher" every time there are talks with the company, it's more like the doomsday clock

A2B I often get asked to communicate after a long week at conference I have done exactly that.
The voting system is strictly independent and we will know how the vote is going.
More Branch’s are recommending a yes than a no to their members.
It is up to you whether you believe the threats or yoU choose to live in a bumble and think that the company are hiding profits and the risks and their is a money tree which can come to the rescue of our members.
I don’t have that luxury I have to live with the reality of what a no vote will bring.

This system of delivery needs to be perfect 100% of the time.
2nd class gets missed on Friday through illness, come the next Tuesday you deliver 4 days worth of 2nd class.Could you get that in one van?
Bank holidays, perhaps I missed the solution, what is it, will every person on a new contract be told to attend work?

Re: A Few things to consider !
Yet again Martin wades in with a rallying call for his yes vote, all the reasons to vote for this agreement, no negativity it's like when moses came down off, the mountain with his tablets.
So you put everything you have negotiated in front of your members and still feel the need to defend it, do you think your members are illiterate?
They can read exactly what it says and vote whichever way they believe is best for them, that's democracy in action.
You telling your members of what might happen if they don't vote it in isn't really on, lets face it you don't really know what the company intend if it's a no, sure they can threaten what they like but you can also push back by withdrawing labour from the workforce, and i think that's the sticking point as the union appear to be running scared of the company.
You are scared for your own self preservation, that's not what the members pay you to do, they pay you to protect all their rights and to negotiate pay rises/t&c's.
Stop trying to run this company, there's a lot of people paid even more than you to do that, and start doing what's best for your members and their workplace.

I'm sure you must have feedback from your branches on how they believe the vote will go in their area? Obviously that's not fact but it gives an indication.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑Yesterday, 10:03A2B I often get asked to communicate after a long week at conference I have done exactly that.

I'm under no illusion as to what is coming but it's coming anyway, we are just being expected to roll over and be grateful for what we've got which doesn't sit right with me.
You have access to a lot more information of the company finances than we do but when at ground level you see the wastage day in and day out you would think the company has money to burn, the Robin app has highlighted that.

Re: A Few things to consider !
All scary stuff, but you know what I think the biggest sticking point issue with the whole thing is, it's too dependant on local management actually well....managing, the problem will be the utter bollocks idea of singleton/rurals being allocated work to fill their time, unless I'm mistaken here and we've unfortunately got the only s**t manager in royal mail then it's simply not going to happen and the divide of workloads will become even wider.

Perhaps you should have told us this from day 1 of the vote, as it seems the reality is either vote Yes now and allow the CWU/the RM to introduce the USO Reforms/DM26 jointly or vote No and allow RM to introduce the USO Reforms as they see fit by EA.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑Yesterday, 08:37When voting !

Perhaps the branches informing their members to vote No also need to explain to them what the consequences are of voting No, rather than just suggesting they vote No?

Re: A Few things to consider !
It's getting a bit draining now every year how we need to accept certain things as royal mail are struggling. More work and less pay, sick pay and so on.
We are lucky we are not on a self employed zero hour contract so let's just slowly let minimum wage catch up and put more work on us.
I'm at the point where I honestly don't care if the company went bust , we are not exactly throwing away a job for life anymore.
Why doesn't the union get into the other courier companies and start trying to unionise these instead of slowly dragging us down to their conditions bit by bit.
We are always told to look down, never up and it's getting boring.

Re: A Few things to consider !
So what you are saying is that a no vote will result in a continuation of delivery points on town rounds getting their second class mail every 3 weeks, and a yes vote will result in the same? How will DM26 stop the business losing experienced and committed employees?
I am not privy to the details but less people doing more work in less time does not look like a way of improving customer service?

More shameful pro company pro billionaire guff from a guy who’s supposed to be representing their paying members. How’s about yourself, Dave and Bouch get yourselves into a DO next week and show us all how you 3 can cover 4 deliveries under this new system. Be interesting to see what you have to say about call rates and “heavy and light” by next Friday. Your heads would be spinning at the amount of tracked we do every day, you have no idea.
Your DM26 will fail, there’s nothing more you can squeeze out of us.
