Vent about the Union and the job.

Post by Lfc1983 »

I've been in this job now as a Part time Postman for coming up to ten years now and paid my union subs all these years.

In these 10 years I've asked about going full time but no one has been made up for years. I've heard the union talk about more full time contracts in this time but nothing has ever come of it.

We are doing more work now then ever before and our wage is getting closer to minimum wage every year. Even worse for the new contracts that the union are stringing along with a promise of equal contracts.

All the benefits are slowly going, cycle to work has gone, all the dental/health insurance gets declined and no annual leave salary sacrifice.

Sick pay has gotten worse so we don't get full pay on a second absence within 12 months.

Monitored to death by PDA, van cameras, siso a lot more than we used to.

Don't see our union rep anymore, don't really hear from the union except for the odd social media post.

So all the money we put into the union over the years, what do we actually get for it. All it seems to be is that they stop us from becoming a self employed driver like evri but the way royal mail take any benefits the job had away slowly it won't be long until it eventually happens. Just the union are slowing the process down.

If you don't feel represented, then consider cancelling your union fees (if you want to) and put the same money into an AVC pension pot for your future. I wonder how much will accrue in 10 years ?
