Hi, here's the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 22 January. We welcome your comments!
WHO NEEDS THEM?
We've seen that "thank you" letter from Royal Mail's "London plant manager" Chris Davis, entitled "Christmas 2025"... He tells us that between Black Friday and Xmas eve alone, "we" processed 35 million items - as if he had anything to do with it! He's just stating the obvious when he says that "this would not have been possible without you" . Yep, they need us, we don't need them!
THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!
And by the way, at the same time this boss and his underlings here at MP, made things nigh impossible, including with this stupid "unforseen" overtime system! Thanks to them, it had to be applied for on a weekly basis, which meant we couldn't organise our lives.
NUMBERS DON'T LIE!
And what about the number of items processed: out of 35m, 30m were outward/inward, DSA and large... letters! So much for their "letter decline" excuse to cut jobs!
POST XMAS SWAMP
That being said, it is Parcels that are swamping the Mount at the moment... it's like Xmas part 2! And thanks to management's job cuts, the undelivered parcel swamp is not anywhere near drying up...
UN-MERRY-GO-ROUND
It's that time of year again, when mates are off on holiday... or sick (some with this nasty new flu strain)! And since managers can't find proper cover, they try to move us around to fill the gaps, leaving other gaps elsewhere which need covering, and so it goes... and doesn't go...
STAY AT YOUR DESK
And by the way, M&S seems to find it difficult to leave us on a duty for more than 5 minutes. It's like musical chairs working with him, but without the music. He's actually so confused, he needs to run back to his office to consult a little book he keeps at his desk... of instructions on how to run a Processing area? We know what rule number one should read: keep away from the area yourself!
BOYCOTT THEIR ATTACK!
Processing managers insist on introducing duties on weekends and on a flat rate. And they imply that we'll have no real choice but to take these duties, or "there's the door". But we've a third option: to meet together to plan for a boycott of these un-social duties! After all, surely it's for us to decide what we want to do with our weekends?!
TIME TO RECOVER
What's more, apparently some of the duties management's cooking up don't give us two days' break in a row. When we all know that we need at least 48 hours to recover from work. Another reason to refuse management's plan.
AGAINST 2 TIERS!
Deliveries have always had Saturday working, but on the shorter shifts which we fought for, a long time ago. Now new starters on Deliveries are on longer shifts, no paid breaks, and they're paid a flat-rate for Sundays!
ONE WORKFORCE, ONE HIGHER TIER!
What's more, the situation now in Deliveries is that we're working side-by-side, even sitting in the same van, with new workmates on lower pay and Ts&Cs. It goes against one of the basic principles we fought for: equal pay for equal work!
RADIO (OR "YOUTUBE") SILENCE...
The last we heard from the union leadership, they were complaining that Excess Profit Group wasn't sticking to the "agreement" regarding the USO changes and equalising new starters' pay and terms. But their last "feedback" was over a month ago and since then, they've been at the negotiating table behind closed doors, leaving us in the dark. Seems we'll have to "walk out" without them!
WHERE'S OUR JOB DESCRIPTION?
DUMs in W1 and EC are asking us to sort RTS letters... Thinking that if we have a minute to spare (haha) we could just as well cover for the duties they've cut in Letter processing! But we say nah, we don't have time to fulfil their wishful thinking.
STINKY LESSON?
Can we organise a crash course in tidiness for office workers? Not to be rude, but us cleaners aren't cleaning the tonnes of dirty cups left all over. And if that poster politely asking them to put their cups in the dishwasher is ignored, maybe the stinky smell of hundreds of cups with mouldy tea, milk and biscuits might be the lesson they need?

I'm calling bullshit on that, letter were WAY DOWN. There was nothing remotly like the volume of Xmas cards going through at Xmas.
Again bullshit, parcels aren't at Xmas levels.
Bad idea, you'll be declared supernumerary and you'll be moved to any shift or even to another office.jimallen wrote: ↑28 Jan 2026, 08:22BOYCOTT THEIR ATTACK!

Apparently we're all supposed to organise and strike for the future of Greenland.
Best of luck with that then..

It’s a constant moan fest , very boring, I don’t even know why it gets posted on here.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑28 Jan 2026, 09:54I'm calling bullshit on that, letter were WAY DOWN. There was nothing remotly like the volume of Xmas cards going through at Xmas.

Mount Pleasant sounds very outdated.

Outdated?
They have got a dishwasher.
If the climate was a bank, they would already have saved it.
