Finally getting out of here!!

Post by postiewhite »

13 years at RM, got a lovely semi rural duty but hate the indoor work now. Every day the line manager is taking people into the office, and monitoring performance on some people too (totally unjustified), it's like being back at middle school. I also know changes are coming now that Xmas is out of the way so things could flip 180 degrees for everyone.
Last year I got offered a job with the bins but stupidly got cold feet and stayed with RM. After months of regretting my decision and reappling I have managed to get on the street scene with the council again, Monday to Friday and same hours as RM. Iam snapping their hands off this time for this chance!!!

I feel like a massive weight has lifted from my shoulders and I don't start the new job with the 26th Jan but I leave RM this Thursday. People have told me just to not bother going back next week and phone in sick but I'm worried they will hold pay back so I may as well work the 3 remaining days even though I don't really want to.

Will I be sad to leave RM? Absolutely not. I feel let down by a company that I thought would be a job until I retire and still had this mindset Upto 5 years ago but it's a lot different now and it will be different again in another 5 years so at 53 years old I'm getting out whilst I can.

Good luck to those that want out. It took 4 interviews this year to get a position with the council so perseverance does pay.

Congrats, your doing the right thing, you know inside when it's time to move on.. I came back after a few years out, and didn't realise how much the job had changed, apart from the crappy new contracts, van share and the massive rise in packets and parcels has totally ruined what was a decent job, I hope to follow you out the door soon.

I'm leaving next month after 37 years, just tuned 59 last week, luckily I'm in a position whereby I don't need to jump into another job straight away, the lump sums from the nra60 pensions will see me ok for a while. The job has changed so much for the worse over the last few years, can't wait to be out of it.

Good luck mate and I don’t blame you.

Can I just ask did you use or have to swap your day off to attend the interviews and did you tell your manager that you had these interviews?

Well done and all the best. This job is now ruined beyond repair and it’s only going to get worse. The revolving door of staff seems to be speeding up as everyone had their breaking point.
Pretty soon this company will be full of part time contract staff who don’t know the sorting and don’t intend to stay beyond a year anyway, then we will really see the downturn for RM and delivery offices.

Where do you get that idea from?

Basic wages aren't paid in arrears.
As long as you haven't taken too much leave, you should be paid normally.

It seems like these days every manager is under so much pressure from their manager to save as many hours as possible. They probably have a target for the minimum number of hours to save or they get moved on.

Well I was and the 3 people who left around the same told me they received payment in full.

What’s more, I could see on the Tuesday afternoon what I was being on the Friday, so I could see everything was correct.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

That point was reached a long time ago at our office.

They might have used too much holiday prior to leaving, or they were mistaken and forgot that when they started they got paid in the 1st week, are you saying they didn't receive any pay the final week they worked, you can see on the app from Tuesday.
