THE Evening Post has saved the day for a Swansea teenager owed money for a Christmas job.
Cameron Davies spent two weeks working at the Royal Mail sorting office in Swansea in the run-up to Christmas.
The 16-year-old from Port Tennant believed his wages would go directly into his bank account at the end of each week.
But, by Monday January 16, he had only received £70.
Cameron's mother Nicola Fitzgerald contacted the Evening Post to explain her son was owed more than he was paid.
The Post contacted Royal Mail for a comment and later the same day Mrs Fitzgerald received a phone call confirming her son would receive the remaining £175 owed to him by Friday, February 24.
She said: "The only reason I got that phone call was because the Evening Post had inquired about the case." Mrs Fitzgerald said her son goes to Cefn Hengoed School and applied for his job in August last year.
She said: "He had seen something online with the Royal Mail and applied for it back in August. He just wanted to earn a bit of extra money.
"At the moment we are struggling to pay for things just as everyone else is.
"For him to have some extra money over Christmas meant he could go to the January sales and also get some experience of working."
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We were aware of Mr Davies's case and we have been investigating the specific details of his claim.
"We can confirm that all outstanding payments will be made to him within a few days.
"We have worked hard to resolve all outstanding pay queries from seasonal workers who worked for us over the Christmas period and all workers were sent an individual statement relating to work they did for Royal Mail.
"This details the total hours they worked over the Christmas period, their pay rate, gross pay calculation and their method of payment.
"We are very confident that the overwhelming majority of our temporary Christmas workers have been paid on time and by the correct amount. We are committed to resolving any issues as quickly and fairly as possible.
"We are grateful to Mr Davies and to all our temporary workers for their hard work in the success of Royal Mail's Christmas operations.
"If anyone has any queries relating to their pay or payroll statement, they should contact Angard Staffing."
