Re: Delivery spans
Ignore it, by the time you add on all the other things you do (travelling, loading into van, lunch etc.) these numbers will fall through the floor. Think more of 5 hour 15 minutes maximum for delivery.

I'm afraid that it will come to you, we've been doing it for a few years over here and it hasn't affected me at allBT2010 wrote:DGP1 wrote:Ignore it, by the time you add on all the other things you do (travelling, loading into van, lunch etc.) these numbers will fall through the floor. Re: Delivery spans
Delivery Method
Max Delivery Span (Hrs)*
Notes
Foot with Pouch on shoulder
3.5
Reduce by 0.5 for multiple hills/stairs & consider scheduling of breaks. Adhere to reduced weights as specified in the risk assessment manual
Cycle
4.0
Can increase to 5.0 if travel out/back is by vehicle
High Capacity Trolley
5.0
Can increase to 5.5 if travel out/back is by vehicle
Electric trolley
3.5
Span is restricted due to use on steep terrain
Shared delivery with light weight trolley
6.0
Shared delivery with MB43 mini pouches (8kg)
3.5
Vehicle (Rural/Bulk)
7.5
Effectively this is a full duty when travel is included
*Assumes an average 30 mins daily travel in addition.
It's in the duty design principles Ricky.
...but as dingo would say...the delivery span depends on when you get your second batch etc.
I don't think anyone could have spans anywhere near the maximums...unless you have a 10hr day to play with.

If the shared van and mini pouches are supposed to be 3.5 hrs how come we are trialling 4 hr deliverys?

That's for predominantly flats/tenements....lots of stairs=fatigue=3.5hr walk.mojothefishmo wrote: If the shared van and mini pouches are supposed to be 3.5 hrs how come we are trialling 4 hr deliverys?

Doing revision at moment and the lots of flats/tenements is being fudged, planner says tenement study conclusionfishtank wrote:That's for predominantly flats/tenements....lots of stairs=fatigue=3.5hr walk.mojothefishmo wrote: If the shared van and mini pouches are supposed to be 3.5 hrs how come we are trialling 4 hr deliverys?
is that only Victorian type tenements or ones 4 or 5 high(4 meaning Grd,1st,2nd,3rd floors) are to be deemed
'lots of stairs' and the 3 high tenements that make up a lot of our deliveries dont count and there would be no
span restriction applied to these tenements. These tenements are a killer with many where you have to climb stairs
up steep banks to get to front door, stairways are hard concrete and uneven etc but no limit to how much of this type
you can deliver to.
Apparently the DIV rep agrees etc

Re: Delivery spans
We are planning walks now. The planner is planning 4 hr walks but joining them together ie walk 1 and 2 together in a van. Do 1 walk first in loops and move onto the next walk and do that in loops. totalling 8 hr's not 6 i'm confused.

I would consider contacting the people responsible for the Fatigue Study.Danelectro wrote:

I can provide you with contact details if you need.
They should be able to provide clear advice on what the study deems "Deliveries with Stairs".
The Summary of Recommendations does say:
Delivery spans for deliveries with a high proportion of "old-style tenements" should not be extended beyond 3:30hrs.
By old style tenements I presume it means 3 or 4 up and not the 2 ups you seem to have.
It would be a fairly simple job to attach a heart rate monitor to a few of your colleagues for a week to see if their heart rates are above acceptable levels.

Two 4 hour walks between two people is not 8 hours work each is it?shepherdess wrote:We are planning walks now. Re: Delivery spans
3.5hrs after P&L revision here.
I have no idea how some of you can be doing 5hr walks, we have so much indoor work we haven't got a prayer of getting out of the office within 3-3.5hrs of starting. We're on IPS/PT walks for around 90 mins a day
5hr walk
40 mins break
15 mins van checks/travelling to delivery
20 mins return to office, sort 739's etc
= 6.15
We're on 7.48 days so would only get 1.30 indoors, we'd have to go out with no mail at all as we haven't even started preppng at that point

2 hours to do all the indoor work on my duty and most of the other duties in my office (and we can only hit 95% on the IWT).OnAFlyer wrote:3.5hrs after P&L revision here.

Re: Delivery spans
If you have WSM flyer it shouldn't take you an hour and a half to get your IPS up unless you are seriously undermanned or more likely not getting the % sequenced from the mailcentre that you were promised.

Re: Delivery spans
Fatigue is not an issue.
Our rep and dep rep again fought hard on the fatigue issue, overruled by management, CWU area and div reps.
Our managers now are trying to get people prepped so they can send them out earlier, they are hoping to et peope out at 9, leaving a 6 hour delivery span.
There's no maximum, not one that's being recognised at any rate, it's all enablers, remember?

Re: Delivery spans
Mail monkey , the span will depend on as fishtank says when you get your second wave of squenced mail and the time it then takes to prep , tie up, redirections etc what time you can leave your office.
If that is 0900 then it will then be down to your rep to argue the following that walks do not have to go till 3 , what methods you are using , when your meal relief is taken , how much replenish time you have , your welfare breaks then need to be factored into your walk which are not included in geo route but must be factored in.
Remember the agreement states most walks should be finish by 2 , the vast majority by 2:30 and dont give ground , to either management or reps.
I knows that is not easy , but the fact is that most revisions which have been introduced which are the intregrated revisons ie walk sequencing delivery methods have collasped. Yes over 700 revisons have been introduced but most of them were self starters and only 120 have been intregrated and most of these have not worked and caused a lot of problems some now costing Royal Mail more money then at the begining so hold your ground , management at senior level are nervous about introducing revisions with agreement let alone imposing a revison on the workforce.
