CSS machines:Who gets jobs?

Can I run this one past you and hopefully 1 or 2 of you have been through a similar experience in your delivery office. I work in Belfast delivery office and we are to get these CSS walk sequencing machines in late July and early August and there are to be operating jobs to accompany these machines with an allowance etc. These machines are to sequence mail for all the units in our delivery office that include North (level 5), West (level 7), South and Central (level 3) Belfast. However there was a WTL session this week where all the doms a/doms stated that only posties from level 3 (South and Central Belfast) may apply for these CSS positions because that is where these machines will be based which I find feckin absurd. My friend in level 7 Belfast West says that the union rep on that floor is to put in a disagreement to allow everyone in the DO to go for that job but there are rumours that the other union rep on level 3 negotiated this and wont back him because he is going to go for that particular job. To tell the truth it wouldnt surprise me that the latter is true based on this reps way of doing things with management. Can anyone clear this one up for me? Cheers

The main CDO where our machines were installed, covers about 14 offices plus 5 sectors within the CDO. ALL employees from ALL those offices were eligible to apply. The 20 or so finaly picked, was based on seniority first, and then after a 3 day training course, suitability. i.e. the people giving the training would `pass` you all. It was almost impossible to fail, but a couple did !!!

I think the lowest seniority was 12 years service.

So if i was you, id fight this all the way. Those positions, like overtime, should be open to ALL. Obviously then, it would depend on seniority, but good luck n keep us informed.

That is no longer the case you must work in the office were the Css machines are installed
to be able to apply 4 the jobs

they must have changed it in the last few weeks then as someone from another office got one of the hull cdo css machine jobs

I applied in Sheffield only been with RM 6 years but had 10 years experiance of running machines in my previous job, 15 positions 60 applicants, only 3 from my office which they seem to want people from the offices the machines will supply. They had no idea of shift patterns or times or days be it 10hrs x 4 or 8hrs x 5. Not hopeful since I found out it was seniority, though I have heard plenty have dropped out in other areas after seeing the maching in action either through a dvd which I haven't seen or actually in the training as apparently it is very fast and one mistake and you are in trouble keeping up with it, which is quite normal really operating a machine seems though this one you are on your own for 2hrs only as it is such hard work I guess keeping concentration for more than 2hrs at a time is to hard, very vague as to what yo will do for the 2hrs away from the machine they have removed nights in the office the machines are installed in so can only presume you tae the sorted mail and prep walks with it?. Hard to accept a job that is so vaguely described big shift from earlies to nights.
