Delivery Duty Design Principles:Doc

This document sets out the key design principles and factors that need to be considered when constructing delivery duties as part of bundled delivery revisions from January 2010. The effect of a bundled revision should be to reduce indoor workload (walk sequencing) and optimise the outdoor design (delivery methods). For some deliveries this will also mean a change to delivery spans. Following these principles will ensure that duties are both safe and sustainable and also meet our operational and commercial needs.

EDIT:

As a result of yesterdays meeting Royal Mail have informed the CWU that they have withdrawn the documents on door to door and delivery design which have been posted on here.

Instead Royal Mail confirmed to the union they want agreements which both sides believe are fair and have both got confidence in..

Not a bad start.

Foot with Pouch on shoulder...........3.5 Reduce by 0.5 for multiple hills/stairs & consider additional breaks. Adhere to reduced weights as specified in the risk assessment manual
Cycle......................................4.0...Can increase to 5.0 if travel out/back is by vehicle
High Capacity Trolley ...................5.0...Can increase to 5.5 if travel out/back is by vehicle
Electric trolley............................3.5...Span is restricted due to use on steep terrain
Shared delivery with light weight trolley..6.0
Shared delivery with MB43 mini pouches (8kg)........3.5
Vehicle (Rural/Bulk)......................7.5 Effectively this is a full duty when travel is included

Now there are some scary numbers

For part time work involving only delivery the length of time on delivery can be increased by about 1 hour for trolley and cycle deliveries providing they are not on steep hills or stairs. For part-time working including light indoor work the delivery span could be increased by around 30mins for cycle and trolley deliveries provided they are not on steep hills or stairs

I would suspect the use of Pouch on shoulder will be limited to situations where NO other delivery method is possible.

These spans assume:-
Scheduled full time working of 8 hours including a 40 min meal break.

Effectively this is a full duty when travel is included
