It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The Brighton rep stood up at conference and said only 6 loops were failing.
That's more than 26 bags a loop.
No wonder they're failing.
You'll never get 26 bags on a trolley.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

They are happy for people to do overtime. In P & L it works perfectly for management. They get full hours out of everyone and only pay extra on heavy days as opposed to paying people to do nothing when they are finishing before time.

Why jump straight into thier hands? If you all cut off their master plan fails.... but what the hell fill your pockets if it makes you happy! :arrrghhh

you misunderstand where im coming from,..
i resent having to do a a 9 hour + shift every wednesday/thursday just in order to clear my duty.
i have a life and places i need to be.
the only reason i dont cut off at the moment is that ive seen the half hearted delivery attempts by our manager. you come in the morning and find hes missed bits and left half the packets. its a no win situation for me
without a doubt some love it (overtime)ever office has them

I wasn't accusing you personally Chunk of single handedly bailing out your managers, but your office workers in general who gladly pick up all the overtime thinking there's no harm in it, and those in the many offices across the land that do the same!

We have had P & L in my office for over a year and we have over 100 rounds. In that time 2 have been altered. The reason being people are clearing up the mess every day to line their pockets. This puts pressure on those that don't want to work over thier time and allows management to get away with oversized duties. If everyone cut off they would be forced to make walks more reasonable and to make more of them. Then perhaps a few of those poor sods on temporary/rolling contracts that get completely abused by management might get a chance at a perminent contract!

Personally im all for my members lining their pockets. I tell them they want to cut off, ok. They tell they want to claim and "fill their pockets" i say, ok. As long as it goes down on the OT sheets and our budget then i can argue the revision isnt working. Why would i want to TELL them to cut off, do what suits. Mass USO failures may get the shock effect but it also f***s the office and customer up royally.

Ron, workers filling up O/T sheets doesn't bother managment in the slightest.... have you not figured that out yet????? The only thing that will sway thier decisions is disruptions and failures. Things that will get the attention of the Gov and Ofcom! :arrrghhh

If you are a union rep and you can't understand that then I guess the union must be in an even bigger mess than I thought!

He is on planet earth - whats your oblate spheroid of choice. :left:

What he meant was not that the deliveries had 4 bags in total each, but that he guessed 35 duties cut off on average 4 bags each. (for instance 16 bags usual, 4 bags left in or cut off so 12 done)

I'm with Judgee on this.
When savings are made and reported up the chain they are always "core hour" savings.
Overtime budgets are pretty much expected and ignored in Royal Mail and have been as long as i can remember so an office that is clearing up it's own mess on overtime will go down as a success in management's eyes...and probably in the eyes of CWU HQ.
The members will,of course get used to filling their pockets and start living by those means and if the excess is being covered on overtime there is no reason to progress part-time to full-time.....then something like a new Dom with different ideas or even privatisation will come along and it will all get rather nasty.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
