No chance of special leave with pay i wouldn't have thought unless your dom takes pity on you.

Close family, (immediate is with pay). However it is down to discretion. My advice is always get someone to cover you, (this is agreed under the pay and mod agreement). All you have to do is inform the manager,(24 hours notice). This takes away the element of a manager "doing you a favor". The manager will want payback I promise you! I hate that! I would rather owe a colleague a favor.

Forget about the swap for a Saturday though. However once again you could work something out with a colleague. Remember the phrase..."covering for each other". It is agreed!!

If you need some time off to deal with the bereavement ask for some time off,if you do the first day will be paid but any subsequent days will likely be unpaid.
That is a separate issue from the funeral which fortunately falls on your day off which means you don't have to worry about that.
Do you need the saturday off specifically to deal with something relating to the bereavement?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I was really close to my aunt. When she died I was'nt entitled to any paid leave, had to use a days A/L for the funeral.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

That's judgemental and incorrect.

It may be your opinion that he is chancing it, however as the OP was not asking for opinions on his relationship with his uncle, or on his honesty not sure why you posted unless it was to get a reaction. If so its in very poor taste.

He could possibly get Unpaid Special Leave as already suggested but that would be up to his DOM, so unless you know his Manager, and how close the relationship he had with his uncle your post was not very helpful, and if I am honest not welcome either.

No, not using it to get a reaction at all, his day off is the day of the funeral so why does he need to swap it other than to get an extra day. As it happens my girlfriends mother died bank holiday monday and I have to use a lieu day to go to the funeral, although wev'e been together nearly 5 years, shes not family so no day off. A few months ago within a couple of weeks I had a aunt and uncle die and I wasn't allowed any time off for those 2 either as they were not classed as close enough.
