driving, dom and atos

Post by twobags »

What is the policy on driving within royal mail. i am the walker on a park and loop round i dont want to drive [personal reasons] when ever my driver is off sick or on holiday i am pressured to do the driving [usually deliver my own round plus all large packets and specials and trackers for both rounds, last week before my driver took time off i saw both line manager and cwu rep to make sure that any cover could drive ,today no cover at all or tomorrow i said that i will deliver my round by trolley and flatly refused to drive ,dom called me in and in the exchange he said i had to take everything for my duty and as for driving that he would refer that to atos ? , he said it was a resonable request from him regarding the driving so i had no grounds to say no" wtf ",where do i stand .

Have you ever driven for Royal Mail?
Have you had the changeover/ diesel training etc?

Somewhat reading between the lines here, and forgive me if I've got it wrong, but you mention a referral to ATOS.
Has your DOM taken this approach because you are unable/unwilling to drive on the basis of a health issue?

A couple of things if you haven't done the driver change over ( you go out with someone in a van and they say if you are a good enough driver) then you're not allowed to drive because you wont be insured. Secondly have they in the last 6 months or ever seen and taken a copy or your drivers license? if not then again you are not insured to drive.

Pressure on employees to do something they don't want to do typical royal mail if your duty is the non driving part of park and loop then you don't do it, see your area rep you shouldn't be forced into doing something that isn't part of your duty. If you don't want to drive your well within your rights to say no.

My understanding of RM Rules regarding Driving ,If you have done the changeover, but not brought your Licence in the last 6 months to be checked by a Manager and Singed the Official RM Disclaimer that you do not drive for any one else, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE -if you have signed this and brought your licence in You have little to complain about if asked to drive .

If however you have not brought your licence in ,Officialy you will be suspended from driving and thus limiting O/T if you are that way inclined!

If they make you drive with out seeing your licence then they can get into serious sh-t.You could have endorsements or even bans,so if they allowed you to drive then they would be breaking the law if you were banned.

If you do not wish to drive ,get your self suspended from driving-simple.Will not affect you job in any way ,if you have old stlye contracting saying you must ride a bike ,no issue at all .
A new contracting stating you must drive a van then you would be in breach of your contract.

We had our 6 monthly licence check 3 weeks ago. I still haven't given mine in and the dom keeps telling me i will be taken off driving tomorrow if I don't bring it in. Still waiting to be taken off though  Its funny how they seem to think being taken off driving is a threat. In my case it would make life a lot easier.
