1 in 4 saturdays will cause job losses

Post by obscurityknocks »

Has any office that has been through delivery methods revision had to cut jobs to incorporate the 1 in 4 saturdays. We are being put under tremendous pressure from managers and planners that if we all chose a 1 in 4 saturday then jobs would be lost. I honestly cant see everyone wanting a 1 in 4 saturday due to their own circumstances but staff are thinking of opting to stay as we are (1 in 6 saturdays) as they dont want the possiblilty of some staff losing their jobs.

The German's have a word for that...it's called Zweckpropaganda.
Die for your country, take one for the team, think about the greater good etc, etc.

Think about it...do you honestly believe managers and planners give a f**k how many jobs are lost,in fact i would go further and say the more the merrier from their point of view so you have to ask yourself why are they feeding me this bullshit?
We didn't lose any staff due to 1 in 4 Saturdays even though they said it would reduce the headcount.
Why not counter with the statement?...You are the managers and planners...you have a think and come back with proposals that produce 1in4 saturdays without a reduction in headcount then we will consider progressing this revision....otherwise it's going nowhere.
Who is under the greatest pressure to progress these revisions...us or them? :cuppa

In what kind of way? Surely not losing full time jobs in the process.

Having extra days off cannot be the direct cause of job losses.
If you have the correct traffic figures and negotiate a reasonable increase to your correct BSI then the hours you loose by dropping to a 39 hour week should give you a little leeway. I can see how it might increase the percentage of AG to FT by introducing new PT day off cover jobs but not get rid of jobs altogether. Your planners are trying to pull a fast one, you are entitled to 1 in 4 Saturdays so take them. At the same time ensure you get your traffic levels right and that you don't use a BSI of 100 but get closer to your actual figure whilst taking into account any hidden indoor hours.
Managers have been massaging the figures for years, so it your current BSI will no doubt-ably be a lot higher than it should be.

Our office were told the same thing, it is lazy planners and managers who want it easy by sticking with 1 in 6 ,if I were you i would insist on 1 in 4

Planners are the laziest of the lot. One of ours used to be a postie, union rep then manager and is now a planner. In my opinion its a conflict of interest being so closely involved planning a revision after being the other three things within the same office but who am i to comment.

Would guess planners are there to plan whatever they are told to by managers and reps. Not sure though whether its best the planners dont know the area or do to be honest.

they used this one in our office to. did the job, most the office decided to stay on 1 in 6. A small percentage of us kicked a stink up and area rep managed to get some 9 day fortnights in. 7 weeks into revision the walks are far too big and not doable but the extra time off is great!!!! :nana stick to your guns its b*** s**t get what your entitled to :dance

Losing replenishment jobs may cost you jobs but 1 in 4s definately wont. A lot of offices have kept headcount increased f/t jobs and put in 1 in 4s in technical terms they
are talking complete shite or total bollocks if you prefer. Trust me the staff will see the only positve of your revision being the 1 in 4s once its deployed
