There are also letters put into the flats trays when they come down from the MC which is probably what WW is talking about.

He's probably refering to the letters and small packets that get run through the FSMs in MCs that have them

Letters and flats are sorted manually in flat frames in the mail centre I work in. I do not approve of this method, it is thoroughly unprofessional but the removal of national letter frames is a cost-cutter that has seen a large reduction in duties for manual sortation. It is here to stay, like it or not and I most certainly do not.

Same here. Thing is, manual letters are sent to our TOPS machine from the CFCs and recorded as mech. When they get there they are only run through the TOPS if they are a decent size, C5 or slightly larger - everything else goes straight to the manual flats frames which are supposed to be only for TOPS rejects. Which makes this office's mech figures look good. Those guys hate sorting them manually probably as much as you delivery guys hate having to deal with trays of mixed flats & letters. Massaging the figures is what it is - where have I heard that before? :shhhhh

Half the letters we get on IPS in the mornings can be run through the WSM's, why is'nt this happening. They are not oversized or thick and they display the correct address/postcode. All that seems to be running through the WSM's is stuff we used to get bundled. So really nothing has changed since we got the new machinery except its in order, well some of it when they can be bothered to do more than 1 run on it.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
