Good question, i would like to know the answer to this as well as i was also lead to believe that the ESA was also covered by the grandfathers rights, so why arent we being given the same rights as the dawn shift workers?

No. 701/10

Ref: 24209a

Date: 13th August 2010
TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond - Pay Related Issues (Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights')

Following the introduction of the new basic pay supplements, it became apparent that employees previously in receipt of Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights' payments held as a result of the 2007 Pay and Modernisation Agreement, had these payments ceased and subsumed into the new basic pay supplements.

The Union has raised this issue with Royal Mail and we can now confirm the following:-

Royal Mail has agreed to reinstate the difference between the previous Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights' of £23.55 and the previous Early Shift One payment of £12.37 per week. This ensures parity of treatment.

Therefore, employees receiving Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights' payments before they were ceased in June, will now receive an additional £11.18 per week on a personal rights basis.

In addition, pensionability associated with the previous payment of £23.55 will be fully protected on a personal rights basis.

These payments will be backdated to the implementation date of the new basic pay supplements and will be paid as soon as possible to those affected.

In recent weeks, the Union has resolved a number of anomalies arising from the introduction of the new basic pay supplements and we are continuing to progress outstanding issues with Royal Mail. Unfortunately, some of these issues require work to be undertaken on a site by site basis. We will continue to update Branches on progress in due course.

Could Branches please ensure that the members affected by the Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights' issue are made aware of the content of this LTB.

Yours sincerely

The first 20 guys came down from WTLL this morning saying they were getting their ESA back.
Wait till you read the managers brief on the dawn shift allowance...clear it aint.
I had to explain to the line manager what the full story was.
How they all laughed when it was explained to them that they were getting f**k all after all...i swear half of them already had it counted and spent. :chuckle

There was a difference of opinion between RML and CWU on dawn shift allowance post agreement.

The agreement uses the term early shift, no mention of dawn shift in 2010 and beyond.

Was/Is in the agreement ESA 1 & ESA 2 to be scrapped and incorporated into the Delivery Supplement, was no mention of this relating to dawn shift allowance.
Hence LTB about dawn shift allowance and agreement(compromise, cave in ?).
NO MONEY BACK for those who recieved ESA 1 & 2.

But in response to my earlier posting, could someone please explain WHY those of us who received ESA are not going to get it reinstated. We need reasons! :arrrghhh

Our ESA payment wasn't protected under "grandfather rights" but merely "pay protected" until the next round of pay negotiations. This apparently gave the cwu the right to do whatever it wished with your/our money, which unfortunately it did! :mad

Welcome to Billy and Dave's world of the "winners and losers" my friend! I'm guessing by the manner of your post that you, like myself, and many others fall into the "loser" category! :Boo hoo!

Yep, your correct on that bunkerland

2007 agreement said that ESA was to be looked at and if and only if no agreement was reached on doing something different with the money was it to be kept as grandfather rights.

2010 CWU and RMl reached agreement which was endorsed by the mbrs. Therefore the payments ceased.
