will be local i guess mate, it all depends on the walk sequencing, if your mail will be over to your office later then you will be starting later. If your in an office with a walk sequencing machine then your mail will be sequenced last so you will definately have a big hour change

The menu of options has been sent to Royal Mail for their agreement , the manager who is covering for Michael Stockdale Head of deliveries who has sadly a serious illness was on leave last week and hopefully this will be agreed this week. Bob Gibson has set out the menu of options to divisional reps and they have sent them out to area reps.

The following options are included in them

1. 2 in 6 Saturday`s off in a rotating day off system with a short day on tuesday. The hours per day apart from Tuesday are 8.30

2. 2 in 6 saturday`s off in wallington system ( 1 week off in 6. ) 48.30 working week.

3. Wallington plus 1 week off in six with a short week as well.

4. 2 rotating full time 4 and half day duties with fixed part time cover ( saturday plus monday ) one in every two saturdays and monday off. 8.30 hour day.

5. 2 in in 6 1 in 3 saturdays off in 5 day rotating day off system. 8.5 hour days.

6. 4 day weeks on 3 week week rotation covering two deliveries all full time duties. 10 hour day.

7. 4 day duty doing extra prep of part time duties has 1 in 3 saturdays off. ( 10 hour days )

8. 9 day fortnight option 6 plus 3. This option allows for one in four saturdays off but every 4 weeks you get Thursday , Friday , Saturday , Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday off in a row. 8 hour 45 day.

9, 9 day fortnight option 5 plus 4. this option gives you one in three saturdays off. Once every 4 weeks you get Friday , Saturday and monday off in a row. 8.45 hour days.

So the menu will explain this options and of course your divisonal and area rep will assist

In short you have to fund the new duties in the same way as you did the five day week but i think everyone will say that no one would now want to go back to six day working and from experience i know that once indivduals get a 4 day week they never want to give it up. All be it some do need convincing in the first place to go to a four day week. But hey some needed convincing to stop working 6 days.

Thanks Dingo,I Found that really helpfull.
Overall I dont think this looks too bad.
do you envisage 1 size will foot all for a office,or could it be A Office could choose several selections from the Menu, providing they all agree and Management agree and is workable.

I Could see some wanting 10 hour days and some wanting to do similar to now.

The Only down side of this ,is the Workload for the local rep,in a large office this could take ages to sort out.

I think the biggest downfall is tucked away at the bottom of dingo's post.

Can't we ask the DOM to fund it from his bonus?

Strange :hmmmm my DOM said that the only way we'd get extra Saturdays of was to lapse duties on a Tuesday.

And this was on top of the permanent lapsing he wants for the whole year (and the lapsing that he currently wants us to do)...........we'll soon have more lapsed duties than covered duties :chuckle

I have said this from day 1 - So apart from starting later on a Saturday you can also look forward to taking on extra work on top of the
chance to have a larger del span anyway - sod it = 1 in 6 will do thanks :chuckle

I have a letter in my posession, that clearly states that my manager has full automation on what duty structures to put in.

This wll be done after a preference exercise is done, and we find out how many PTers want made FT as this will affect the duty structures.

Nowhere in this letter was the word "budget" mentioned.

Does that mean he's a robot or did you mean autonomy? :Very Happy It also means job losses because they're not likely to want fit a pint into a quart pot and if it doesn't mention budget it doesn't mean it doesn't figure in the equation.

I have to say every shift pattern has always been self funded, do you really think that Royal Mail are going to give you loads of extra jobs as rest day covers so you can have improved attendances. Never the less I have yet to find anyone who would want to go back to 6 day working and when people have more improved attendances like 4 day weeks believe me sickness levels go down and morale goes up. You work the same 40 hours on a 4 day week as you do on the five day week the only difference on the four day week is you get two days off per week as opposed to one on the five day week.

Now some of you need to stop quoting your dom said this and dom said . When have we ever accepted what DOMs have said. Doms will do what they are told by above and both Mark Higson , Dale Handon, Peter Walls and Steve Cameron know what has been agreed and the agreement has a review of this element to ensure improved attendances are taking place.

I have to say having met with two regional directors they have both accepted and in fact agreed that improved attendances must be part of any agreement and surveying the staff is key. Remember you can have a mix and match of different attendances in an office so some monday -to fridays , some 9 day fortnights and some 4 day weeks. The survey of your members within your office will dictate the duty set.
