Postmen demand service delivery transport (Pakistan)

Islamabad—The postmen of remote areas of the country called on Thursday for proper transport system to deliver money orders on time to their customers.

Postmen said that the ministry should provide proper facilities to the rural areas officials for improving services. “They are facing problems due to lack of proper infrastructure and transport facilities” they claimed.

Postmen maintained that the authorities should take some concrete steps in this regard to avoid any kind of delay or problem particularly in delivery of money orders.

An official of Postal Ministry said that most of the money orders reach their destination on time, except some remote areas where the delivery is delayed by a week because postmen use traditional routes and modes of transport to deliver money. “Through its network of around 13,000 post offices across the country’s rural and urban areas, Pakistan Post provides a remittance service under two systems, Urgent Money Service (UMS) and Fax Money Order (FMO)” he added.

He said that millions of rupees flow through this system every month, which is considered safe and affordable. He said that in various northern and tribal regions, money orders get further delayed as families relocate temporarily. “Most of Islamabad’s money goes to Punjab and that is the province where we have to be more efficient with our delivery service”, the official said.

Kashif Ahmad, a customer of Post, claimed that in the past year most of the money orders were sent back from the mountainous regions of Swat because the families were not accessible.

He said that in this case, the orders that returned had to be sent again after verifying the new address.

Concerned authorities, he said, pay little attention to orders from these areas because they are few in number.—APP
