leave it a few weeks if you are selling as if you sell on or near the day they will drop in price by at least 10%.
Wait till they recover in say 2 weeks then sell.
Personally I would keep them as they will be 20% down with tax so £5 a share will be £4 a share

I was planning on keeping them but this year has been a massive financial hit and I think selling is going to be my best option. I may lose 20% but if it saves me £50/month in interest payments and stress then I may sell them.
I'll work it out an if it covers all my debt then I will sell them.

keep them why give the gov another £1000 or so in tax and ni , these are the people who sold us off in the first place , I agree the price will fall when posties sell but after xmas and r/ms secret stash of property the price will go back up , ive looked on a site lse for shares and there are investors who cant wait for oct because the amount of posties selling and these people will mop them up for next to nothing , keep and get the dividends , what we haven't had we wont miss.

I don't see how a mass of people selling shares in October will effect the share price. It isn't a supply and demand thing.
The share price is based on the Value of the company on the stock exchange. The stock exchange doesn't care or rate the share price on who holds the stock ( I.e you or the people who buy your shares when they come to market ) The share price is simply the total number of shares issued against the perceived value of the company.
People will decide to buy shares on the dividend they yield and the likely hood of the stock rising or falling.
The only thing that may effect the share price as a result of everyone vesting their shares in October is that this could be perceived by the market as Current employees waiting until they can do this, and then exiting the company leading to poor ( or in this case worse ) Industrial relations.
There are loads in our office gobbing off about how they are just waiting for their shares to cash. then they are off. Personally I cant see how circa £2,5k after tax is enough to walk from a job.
Whether you sell or not will depend on personal financial circumstances, Either way its free money! but do you really want HRMC to have 25% of it?

also the amount being sold is relatively small, maybe 20% will be sold (just a guess and may be on the high side) of the 1% that RM employees hold

its not in itself, but it is the reason many who may have left in the past year will have hung around for a few more months to get a decent amount of free money.magicw wrote:

Putting aside the question of selling or holding, I wonder how many posties will be handing their notice in the day after they get their shares?
Those who've been planning to jack it in for a while anyway and are just hanging on to get their shares as some form of pay off?

It is Supply and demand, and when the supply peaks the price drops because buyers will be able to dictate a lower price. My own guess is that there will a single drop of around 15% followed by a recovery of 20 - 25% because a lot of institutional investors will snap up the employees shares and that usually creates more demand as it increases their dividends.magicw wrote:I don't see how a mass of people selling shares in October will effect the share price. Although relatively small your figures are slightly out. We hold (or will hold) around 12% of the shares (10% initial and 2 1% issues in 2014 and 2016). However only 7-8% will be available in October and 20% of that will be around 2% or 20 million shares (at current value) £115 million.Postie45 wrote:also the amount being sold is relatively small, maybe 20% will be sold (just a guess and may be on the high side) of the 1% that RM employees hold
