Many members injured in Dog Attacks are not aware of and do not make applications under the Royal Mail Letters Dog Attack Compensation Scheme.

If injured and off work sick as a result of the dog attack, benefits are available to members under the Royal Mail "Dog Attack Compensation Scheme". The scheme pays compensation amounting to the difference between full rate sick pay and an individual's average weekly earnings over the previous 13 weeks but excludes Christmas/Summer Pressure periods and Annual Leave. This is paid out regardless of any Personal Injury Litigation Compensation which may be recovered by the Union Soplicitors acting for the member.

They certainly kept that quiet. My mate got bitten a few months back and knew nothing about it until a rep from another section handed him the form. Apparently the form has to be put in within 4 weeks of the attack.

Sister stokesie the scheme to which you refer was inclusive in the Royal Mail Good Practice Guide for Dealing with Dog Attacks, and it has been on the go since about May 1998. Although as can be seen this version (downloadable one) is from 2003 whilst the original version from (1998) the year in which all delivery office managers supposedly received a copy of the Good Practice Guide for Dealing with Dog Attacks.

In 1998 and under Section 5 - Appendices was found amongst others - Dog Attack Compensation Scheme - Claim Form E or to put it more correctly:

The layout and design of the 1998 version and 2003 one are markedly different. And to directly answer you, delivery office managers should have known about the compensation scheme and thereby made any of their members of staff who were of sick due to injuries received from dog attacks aware of the existence of said scheme, as it is there in black and white and amongst the Appendices of Section 5.

Dealing with Dog Attacks - Good Practice Guide under Section 2 - General Information it also mentions Dog Attack Compensation Scheme.

Old Story, sloppy managers ill informed and injured members of staff. If I was you or any one of your colleagues who have been off with a period of absence due to dog attacks, I would be certainly asking your manager a few pertinent questions.

Aye-sloppy managers right enough. guess they do not want you to know anything! I remember many years ago, when I first started, there useto be two books on company policy on display, when I asked if i could read them, they vanished of the shelves!

Brother keithposty it would appear that the scheme still does exist as Dave Joyce in his letter to the Royal Mail Chairman has suggested that the scheme is improved.

(2) Make improvements to the Royal Mail Dog Attack Victims Compensation Scheme. It hasn't been improved for some time and many don't even know it exists. When I wrote to Mark Higson requesting this consideration some time ago, he didn't reply.
