It seems very odd that the Royal Mail web site has no information on the effects on the postal service of the closure of European air space.

Welcome Old Tom.

To be fair to RM it does mention it in its "International incident bulletin" page but its very difficult to find. http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... Id=3800088" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All Countries
Start date: 15th April
End date: Ongoing

The closure of UK airspace and in parts of Europe continues to affect the transport of mail due to either leave or enter the UK via UK airports. Where possible mail leaving the UK for Germany, France, Belgium and The Netherlands is being transferred to road services where possible. Mail for other parts of the world is being stored in order for it to continue its journey as soon as flights resume. There is no mail entering the UK by air at present.

We will of course keep you updated with further details as they become available to us.
Further down the page it does list the effect on each individual country in Europe.
