10 Month contract

Hello everyone, im new and have a few qoestions

If I get offered a 10 month contract as a postie from RM, Does that mean after 10 months the job will end, Or do they extend the contract? if your a good worker to a perm one if you pass a probation period?

Ive worked for RM before as a xmas casual and 13 years for PF, In my days at PF i started off as a casual then after 6 months i got another 6 month probation perid then was given a permanent contract.

Is this still the case or have things changed?
