A mate has just rang me to find out if this is correct. On Monday he was unable to attend work due to the snow, with no busses or trains he called his manager and was told as he lives within a 3 mile radius if he does not attend he will NOT get paid. He is on a 11.30 start on pm collections.Also as the nearest office is an delivery office only it was pointless to attempt attending it as they where sent home with no work at 09.00.
Sounds to me a case of another control freak in action.

The Postal Instructions (posted by woofwoof in downloads) state that in
severe weather conditions you are expected to walk up to 3 miles, or 2 miles
if your job entails being on your feet for most of your duty, to attend work.
If your own workplace is further than that, you are expected to attend any
DO or MC that might be within the 3/2 mile limit at your normal attendance time.
So if your friend had attended his local DO at 1130 he would have been covered,
even if the deliveries had been suspended, and the staff sent home. He would have
needed to get a note from the Manager there to prove he had attended, which would
have meant he would have got paid. The DO manager might have kept him there
for a while to do some sorting maybe, or let him go.
In my MC, those who could not get in, and did not attend a local DO or MC, were
given the option of taking a day's leave out of course, from their Annual Leave
entitlement, or a day's Special Leave (unpaid).
I think, according to the PI, the time could also be made up in the following week.
