The Trade Union Congress (TUC) launched a survey asking for people around the UK to share their experiences on job security. The survey comes at a time when the Office of National Statistics (ONS) released statistics showing that 2.4 million people are on some form of 'flexible' employment contract.
The TUC has asked all union affiliates to ask their members to take part in the survey, especially anyone employed on a zero-hour contract, a Pay Between Assignment contract, agency workers and those in temporary work. However, any workers who face problems with short hours working, job insecurity and/or low pay should take part in the survey and ensure their voice is heard.
CWU national officer Sally Bridge would like to see as many union members take part as possible: "I would like to see as many members as possible take this survey, especially agency workers or those employed on short hour contracts or receiving low pay.
"There are too many people who are working for low pay with little or no job security and this survey will hopefully give us a much better idea for how common these problems are."
The findings from the survey will be used to campaign for a better deal for people at work.
Sally continued: "Most people are aware of the issues surrounding zero-hour contracts but Pay Between Assignment contracts are still relatively unknown yet offer just as little job security for the employee. If you know of anyone who is working in these conditions then please pass this survey on to them to take."
The questionnaire should take about 15 minutes to complete and all the answers provided are confidential and anonymous. The survey closes on 20 June 2014. Complete the TUC survey now. http://www.tuc.org.uk/jobinsecurity" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
