Unofficial strike action at Royal Mail delivery centre in Southampton

POSTAL chaos was avoided for Southampton today after 90 workers went on strike this morning.
The unofficial industrial action took place at Shirley Delivery Office over the suspension of a member of staff.
Rob Hayhurst, area of rep for the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said: "An individual CWU rep was suspended this morning and as far as everyone was concerned here, he followed the correct procedure, so we took action."
The strike action ended at 10.30am after around an hour and some deliveries in Shirley, Millbrook, Lordshill, Bassett and Chilworth may be affected.

So everybody I assume declares to the tax man that you get your travel to work paid for then? Benefit in kind? Or is this just unofficial? Because if it is best you keep your head down.

It's nothing to do with the tax man as long as you are not using the van for social purposes.hantsman wrote:Bahia Feliz wrote:We have been allowed to take our vans home since a neighbouring office shut and they moved to our office. It happens a lot around the country now.

When is there a tax charge on a
company van?
Employees pay tax on a company van if they or a member of
their family or household make private use of it. If the
employee has the van mainly for work journeys (for example,
delivering goods or making calls to customers), and the only
private use is commuting, there is no tax to pay.

on the fuel from same site:
What if free or subsidised fuel is provided for private use?
Employees also pay tax if free or subsidised fuel is provided by the employer for private use in the van.
