Private firms can often be cheaperCompanies can make savings and receive a more personal service from courier firms.

Businesses should explore Post Office alternatives when deciding on their parcel delivery needs as these can be both cheaper and offer a more personalised service, it has been claimed.

Sandra Patterson, managing director at Boxby, writes in Realbusiness.co.uk that Royal Mail is "a huge elephant of a company" and it has little concern for individual deliveries, driven instead by national targets.

The advantage of using Post Office alternatives is that they are commercial entities which take much greater care of customers and their parcel delivery needs.

"When you deal with one of the commercial parcel companies, you are back in the commercial world - line managers are assessed on the service that they provide you," Ms Patterson claims.

She adds that it is foolish to assume that Royal Mail is always the cheapest option when it comes to sending small parcels, as many courier services can provide guaranteed delivery assurances at the same price or less.

Centro, the West Midlands integrated Transport Authority, recently put out a tender for a private delivery firm to take care of its parcel delivery needs for an initial two-year period.

In short, whilst we aren’t brilliant and I will hold my hand up and admit that, as a company, we do make too many mistakes, we are not to blame for all of your woes with deliveries. Part of my job is monitoring and dealing with customer complaints and I estimate that around 60% of the complaints we receive are from Amazon or Argos customers; compare that to the fact that, together, they account for less than 10% of our daily volume and it should be apparent that the blame does not lie entirely with us, the delivery agents.


One of my customers came out to me today,
'Mr Y could you help me out here,a parcel was delivered yesterday according to HDNL but we didnt receive it,the signature is *******,
Mr Y 'Oh thats your neighbor over the street '
Customer'The bastard didnt even put a note through the door,how were we meant to get the packet?
Mr Y 'Thats why you should use Royal Mail'

It's personal allright - it's your hedge / fence they've chucked it over that's if they've found the address in the first place & most probably your one of your local chavs / pikeys/ skanks will have seen the unsecured delivery being made and that item you've ordered will be getting sold in your local pub in no time , no questions asked -

That's because the last postman they asked sent them the wrong way, or past their intended destination, or sent them to the right area, but either excused themself by saying " I don't know the area too well - I was told by the screw to start where the driver dropped me, and keep going till I run out of letters", or by sending him off to the postman that would be near his destination - then getting on the phone to that postie to warn him some idiot with a packet was on his way!

Not that I do these things or anything....it's just what I've heard about

well, i wouldn't give a flying f**k if i worked for anyone else (other than RM). s**t money and un-achievable targets. bit like, what management have as a picture for the future of RM.
