Postal deliveries will be affected by the extra congestion generated by the Olympic Games, with some mail held in the system for an extra day, Royal Mail has said.
A £1 charge will be introduced by Parcelforce for delivering to parts of London during the Games.
Londoners are also being urged to post mail earlier in the day than usual.
But deliveries and collections will continue six days a week.
'Inevitable impact'
Royal Mail said it had worked with Locog and Transport for London to "secure sufficient access" to be able to deliver, collect, sort and transport business and customer mail during the Olympic period from 27 July to 9 September.
Postmen and women will start their delivery rounds earlier because of the extra travelling time they will need due to transport restrictions imposed by the Olympic Route Network
Households and businesses in the postcodes of E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W and WC are being advised to post their mail earlier in the day than usual.
Customers posting mail to these areas should do so a day earlier than usual, Royal Mail said.
Mark Thomson, Olympic Director for Royal Mail, said: "Royal Mail is geared up to serve London during the Games.
"We will continue to collect and deliver six days a week despite the inevitable impact on the capital's transport system because of the Games."
Parcelforce Worldwide said in common with other delivery companies it would be introducing an extra charge for delivery in the postcode areas affected by the Games.
The £1 fee will replace the 50p which normally applies because of the London congestion charge.
A spokeswoman for the Post Office said all branches would be open as usual during the Games.

London 2012: Royal Mail warns of Olympics post delays

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: London 2012: Royal Mail warns of Olympics post delays
The London Divisional Reps have achieved an agreement which covers the impacted delivery offices in London and collection hubs during both the Olympics and Pare Olympics.
This agreement allows for SA hour age to be paid to ensure deliveries get out , no absorption , extra nights and pre starts , Sunday overtime , relaxing the late book and not having to delivery the wave 2 work on the day and rolling it till the following days delivery.
Collection Hubs will have earlier collections and a sweeper in the morning.
All the local reps for the 50 high impacted units in London were invited to a meeting at the Mount earlier this week where the divisional rep explained the agreement paragraph to all the local reps so they commence Negotations and conclude a local agreement by next Wednesday and if they don't then they go to disagreement and further meetings for those offices with the Divisonal reps will take place.
