Princes Risborough protestors disappointed as delivery office move to go ahead
http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/97 ... _go_ahead/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
PROTESTORS against the closure of the delivery office in Princes Risborough have been dealt a devastating blow today after Royal Mail announced the move to Aylesbury is going ahead.
At the end of February a coach load of residents went to Royal Mail HQ in London armed with a petition of 3,500 signatures to keep the delivery office in the town.
The office in Bell Street had already been closed but campaigners hoped to convince bosses to relocate the service to Regents Park in the town.
But today Royal Mail said the move will go ahead and the service will be based at the Aylesbury Vale Delivery office- six and a half miles away in Quilters Way, just outside Aylesbury.
Town cllr Alan Turner said: "It is a sad day for Princes Risborough and I think that Royal Mail have failed to live up to their obligation in supporting rural communities."
The move is due to take place by the end of September and the company said it is part of its ongoing modernisation of its operations across the country.
In a release today Royal Mail said they did scope alternative locations for a site within Princes Risborough but no suitable location could be identified.
The release said: "This included exploring a site at Regents Park but its availability as a rental premises only, along with insufficient parking space and the costs involved in redeveloping the site for our operation, meant that this was not a viable option."
Cllr Turner said he did not think the figures to convert the building at Regents Park were accurate.
He said he is meeting MP John Bercow, who has been involved in the campaign to keep the service, and union representatives.
Local union representative, Andy Ball, who works at the delivery office, said: "We have got our industrial action ballot still live. We need to make a decision whether we will go on strike about it."
Customers can arrange a redelivery free of charge and customers who have items to collect, such as parcels and registered letters, can pick them up from the post office in the High Street, but Mr Ball said residents who work will find it difficult to get there in its working hours.
Customers with PO Boxes or surcharges/custom charges to pay will need to go to the Aylesbury Vale Delivery Office.
Mark Higson, managing director at Royal Mail said: "Customers in Princes Risborough can be reassured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption and ensure we maintain the high level of service they expect and deserve from Royal Mail."

Princes Risborough Delivery Office Will be Moved to Aylesbury in Four Months
http://www.mix96.co.uk/news/local/68034 ... ur-months/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Royal Mail says closing Princes Risborough's delivery office on Bell Street, won't actually effect deliveries and that their customers will 'continue to be a top priority during these changes'.
The organisation confirmed Aylesbury's Delivery Office at 7 Quilters Way would take on responsibility for the Risboroughs, as they try to modernise operations through the country.
This is how it's going to work -
Customers in Risborough who get a card saying they need to collect a parcel will be able to do so from Princes Risborough Post Office, which is open between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
Those who are affected are customers with PO Boxes or who have to pay a surcharge or custom charges in order to pick up their post. If there is money to exchange you'll need to go to the office in Aylesbury to collect your mail. Those opening hours are 7am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and Saturday 7am to 12.30pm.
Royal Mail say they want the 'move' to be complete by the end of September 2012. The plan was first announced in April last year and prompted local householders and councillors to campaign for Bell Street to stay open. Royal Mail have said "there will not be any compulsory redundancies as a result of this move."
But campaigners took their fight to Westminster - where John Bercow, MP for Buckingham, pledged his support - and they took a petition to Royal Mail's HQ:

What happened to the ballot for Industrial Action?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
