RETIRED Doris Mounfield was distraught when she realised she’d posted an envelope full of money into a post box.
She only realised her mistake when she couldn’t find the cash the following morning.
“It was a relative’s pension and was in a long white blank envelope,” said Doris, aged 70 of Lynn Close, Runcorn.
“I really didn’t think I’d see it again.”
She went to the post office inside WH Smith at Halton Lea shopping centre to pay bills.
It was only when she checked her bag the next day that she realised what she’d done.
She immediately rang Runcorn sorting office only to discover the mail had gone to Crewe, with thousands of other letters.
“If I had realised straightaway, I’d have gone back to the post office,” said Doris.
“I thought it was gone for good. It was in an unmarked envelope.”
Postal staff gave her a reference number and said they’d hunt for her package.
Incredibly, they found it and returned it to her personally within 48 hours with all the money intact.
Doris said:”It was absolutely incredible.
“I can’t thank the post office enough.
“When I read in the World about you asking what makes you proud, I couldn’t get on the phone quick enough to tell you.
“We’ve always had an excellent postal service here but this was amazing.”

Bet you don't see that on the BBC/Sky/ITV/C4 news! It's what's called "Good Copy" in the print-trade.
Now... if it wasn't found then no doubt some cynical journo would be implying, no doubt, that it was "diverted elsewhere", ie; into someones pocket.... just to have a go at the posties again.
I will be watching that programme, Despatches, on C4 Tuesday evening too. Let's see what they've come up with this time.
