Merseyside postmen take on mountain challenge for friend

TWO Merseyside postal workers will climb 15 mountains in just 24 hours in honour of their friend who was wounded in Afghanistan.

Distributions manager Peter Byrne and postman Mike Wood will climb the 15 highest peaks in Wales to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Their friend, Royal Marine Aaron Moon, broke several bones included his shoulder, vertebrae, pelvis, thigh and leg when he was caught in a blast.

He also shattered his heel, ruptured his spleen and wounded his right arm.

Peter, who works at Copperas Hill in the city centre and Mike, who works in St Helens, will cover an estimated 30 miles to complete the Welsh 3000s challenge on March 4.

Peter said: “We wanted to do our bit for the troops who fight for our country.”
