RE: Romec Dispute: Industrial Action Cancelled

I am pleased to report that following further talks at ACAS this morning, Romec have this afternoon confirmed a substantially improved offer which the Executive Council will be recommending to Romec member's in an individual member ballot at the earliest practical opportunity. The industrial action called for tomorrow, Friday, 21st December, has therefore been called off and we would be grateful if branches could make urgent efforts to ensure that all Romec members involved in the dispute are advised accordingly.
The offer from Romec is a lump sum consisting of 3.1% of annual salary payable as soon as practically possible - this is anticipated to be at the end of January.
On 31st March 2013 pay rates will be raised by 3.1% on a fully consolidated basis flowing through to London Weighting, allowances and other payments which are just in line with pay rates
The next pay review date is 1st April 2013.
I would like to thank branches for the support they have given our Romec members during the dispute which has clearly been instrumental in bringing it to an acceptable conclusion.

It is quite possible that the threat of staff not crossing the picket line and machine breaking down as they do, with a all the resulting disruption was enough to give ROMEC pause for the thought.

It is not just possible it is a fact that romec gave into the unions claim of 3.1 % into pay as a result of the fact that some offices would not go in if their was a picket line. Who said the union was dead ?

And over the 3 years the average was what? More to the point what's the offer for 2013.

Four years if you include 2009 when if i remember correctly we got a big fat zero.

What i think is embarrassing is the length of time the employers are allowed to drag these "negotiations" out for.
The review date was Jan 2012 and here we are almost 12 months later and the Romec staff won't even see the rise in wages until March 2013.
Instead they have to make do with a heavily taxed non-pensionable lump sum as some kind of consolation prize.

Inflation at the settlement date was 4.8%,so even at 3.1% it's a drop in the real standard of living for most.
It is an achievement to get that much out of Romec but it's not really a cause for celebration.

Twas ever thus, its always been like that, it would have better to negotiate cleanly and honestly, this way you improve industrial relations in no time, instead they try to make a it a battle to prise the last penny from their pocket and yet these same bosses award themselves a much bigger increase very quickly all decided over a cup of tea.

And they wonder why we have very poor industrial relations.
