CWU Finances:Draft motion

Hi everyone,
have a look at this draft motion we know it won't fit everyone's needs but the idea is to have a look at what needs changed to ensure the cwu survive the next decade.

Conference agrees that the financial situation of the CWU is a cause for concern for everyone that is a member or works for the CWU. Therefore Conference instructs the NEC to explore the following and implement where ever possible the following changes that will ensure the CWU can survive for the next decade and beyond.

1) There is an immediate review of all National officers roles at HQ with a view of merging duties and reducing the amount of Officers on the current pay role ensuring no one is made compulsory redundant.

2) There is a reduction of the size of the current NEC to a maximum of 26 including the National Presidents and Vice President.

3) There is a review of all National sub committees with a view of reducing the amount of times they meet per year and the amount of delegates there is on them currently.

4)There is a wholesale review of all field officer positions with a view of merging roles where possible and reducing travelling costs.

5) That where there is more than one branch in a city then those branches will merge to form one branch that will be cross constituency based.

6) That there will be a review of the current equality conferences to ensure that there is only one equality conference covering all areas and issues of concern to the current conferences.

7) That there is an urgent review of Annual Conference and it's current expenditure including the length of conference, that will ensure Conferences can be held on a regular basis without the current costs that are involved in having activists working away from their offices for 6 days Sunday - Thursday including travelling on a Saturday.

8) That there is a review of the need to have CWU HQ in Wimbledon and price up other options that may include CWU HQ selling the current property in Wimbledon and purchasing a building elsewhere in the country that will be cheaper and more cost effective to run.

This list is not exhaustive and where elements can be implemented they should be implemented by no later than Conference 2011.

I suppose I am classed as a "usual suspect" because I have not posted on the Panorama thread, but there again, it was only what I was saying two years ago...my worry is that for all the good publicity generated, nothing will change and those longer deliveries are already packaged up to be "sold" to the members any time now...

...but back to the thread....at last I say, some reality from the CWU, about the perilous state they are in....

Some of them got low interest mortgages,it was in the news forum at the height of the strikes.
