New device - designed with you in mind

Image

Here’s your first glimpse of our new hand-held device for all frontline colleagues.

By October next year it will replace all existing PDAs across the business.

We’re investing around £130 million over five years in hand-held technology to enable more flexible delivery for customers and better tracking capability.

The investment means we will begin rolling out around 76,000 of these smartphone-style handsets from October this year.

This is to ensure all frontline colleagues have access to one.

Here are just some of the benefits of our new PDA:

Ten-hour battery life
Much lighter and more robust than existing PDA
Bigger screen, which is easier to read
Better signature capture in all conditions.
The new device will enable significantly more of our parcels to be tracked. This is exactly what our customers want.

Just like a smartphone, ‘over-the-air updates’ can be carried out. This ensures the new PDA and new application will do more, quickly, and at less cost.

More than 400 frontline employees were asked for feedback to help the business select this device from a shortlist of eight.

It was also subjected to 2,500 hours of rigorous laboratory and real-world scenario testing.

The new PDAs will be introduced for indoor work this summer and will be rolled out across the remainder of the operation between October this year and October next year.

A new helpdesk service will also launch to support both the current and new devices. This will be available for the current PDAs from March this year. From May we will be able to resolve problems remotely.

For more information about our new PDA, look out for a dedicated Courier News Flash and see the March edition of Courier.

OK - The simple essentials.
Like a mobile phone, will it have a simple button to briefly depress to lock the screen to prevent accidental operation?
Will it NOT have that annoying 'oink oink!' every 10 seconds when the battery is getting low, thus wasting more battery?
Will the backlight operate for more than one month from new?

If so, wonderful! :nana

You can lock the screen on the current PDA this way.
(I'm assuming it will have the same, or a similar, screen lock as the current PDA.

Current PDA
Bottom LHS of screen (Options) where you log out/off it lists Lock Screen in the pop up menu.
Click on Lock Screen and you're done. The screen is locked. To unlock the screen go to the bottom LHS it says "Unlock" and then in the centre RHS of the screen click on "Unlock" and it'll open you then click on Deliver to enable you to scan the item.

Also saw this online (saved it as a download ages ago) RM PDA PDF file on how to use it!

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

It may well do (slide), but there are people out there that don't even know how to lock the screen on the current PDA.
Nothing wrong with that is there?

For the first month and then the deterioration sets in and the capacity goes progressively down. As for the 2500 hours of testing indoor and outdoor  If there are 100,000 delivery officers at an average of 5 hour deliveries, that's 500,000 hours a day x by 6 that's 3 million hours in one week and 2500 hours testing as a percentage of that is a minuscule 0.83%.

http://www.motorolasolutions.com/US-EN/ ... uters/TC70

Looks like it could be this....as made by motorola..'course, I could be wrong. :hmmmm

This from the spec sheets
The TC70 is tested and proven to operate reliably after multiple 6 ft./1.8 m drops to concrete and 2,000 consecutive 3.2 ft./1 m tumbles in our punishing tumble test. The Corning Gorilla Glass 2 touch panel and scanner exit window bring a new level of durability to two of the most vulnerable components.
Yeah but how will it take to bimbling around in the back of a Peugeot Bipper...... and being run over by the former.....time will tell! :left:

That will mean they're no good for in MCs then if it ends up with all parcels being scanned all the time

Can't get them soon enough. I can't see anything om my existing PDA, I just press where I know is the correct place, I know near enough where the keys are on the keyboard.
I just hope these new one can be dropped in a puddle and survive being dropped on the road when they fall out of a pocket.

Yes, indeed - I know how to lock the present one, but it's a p!ss-about compared to my mobile say. With that, just hold the button on side for 1 sec, one-handed and it's done.
