Has anyone else got a D2D from Royal Mail informing the public that they will shortly be seeing their postman using what appears to be a camera aimed at their front door

Apparently, we won't be taking pictures but measuring the distance from the road to their front doors! WTF?

absolutely illegal you cant put up cctv cameras without display notice and even then you can only record own premises or property.they would be open to privacy lawsuits if practising this

I don't work Monday or Tuesday, so got to my frame today to find that this was this weeks D2D (and the only one! Joy!) and asked about it. The thought is that it's an effort to make sellable data, though quite who needs to know the distance from the path to a door I don't know. My thought though....we're going through the revision and all the jobs seems to have come off the computer system (don't know it's name) as far too long. Makes me wonder if *someone* forgot to include the distance from the path to the door on every drop and we're now having to measure them to add them to the system to get a realistic idea of the distance/time of a walk.....

Given how unreliable GeoRoute is, this is something the planners could do to earn what they're being paid. More seriously, doesn't this demonstrate that GeoRoute is useless if this information isn't already on hand?
