1 Minute Prep Test
Probably been done to death this but here goes.
Im a workplace coach, and on my day off on tuesday the managers were allegedly sneaking round doing unnannounced tests on people.
Several people confronted me about this and upon checking my file I saw that this was indeed the case. And unsurprisingly everyone they tested had failed, probably due to the amount of mail already in the frames.
I went in and had it out with the dom. He said that he is entitled to do tests either announced or unannounced as he sees fit, as long as he goes thru the results with the people in question afterwards.
I argued that I didnt believe this was correct, and asked him to produce documentation to prove he could. Im still waiting.
So basically, what is the current protocol regarding 1 minute tests??

This is the bit you hit them with....
And of course....Following full implementation, when all employees and managers are fully aware of the required performance standards, it is accepted by both parties that the use of the formal one-minute checks to evaluate a fully-trained individual’s performance, would not be appropriate. The only exception to this might be when an individual’s capability to meet the standard is brought into question due to the length of time they may have been away from the task they are due to perform e. g. the individual has been performing other duties for a year and the use of a one-minute check may indicate to the manager that they may require support or refresher training.
it was counterproductive and contrary to the aims of the initiative to use individual performance standards or one minute spot checks as a disciplinary tool.

Re: 1 Minute Prep Test
What a waste of time. The test means (if you pass) the you *can* prep so many in a minute, not that you actually *do*. The fastest ones in my office are the ones that stand around drinking coffee and talking all the time. I'm pretty slow I think (never been tested) but I prep constantly for a couple of hours, or as long as it takes. I don't go to the toilet, stand chatting or spend 15 mins at the drinks machine.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: 1 Minute Prep Test
We have a Manager who used to hide and say you failed then, I challenged him he said I'm doing you for Harrasssment The DOM will sort you out. Listen if they dont't follow the correct procedure tell them that you will be put a grievance in and if nothing happens then you will take them to a no win no fee solicitor, especially now they are looking to sack managers, do you want to play hard ball.

AS A WORKPLACE COACH YOUR JOB IS TO COACH ANY MEMBER OF STAFF THAT MAY REQUIRE COACHING IN ANY TASK THAT THEY MAY NOT BE REACHING THE STANDARDS REQUIRED, ANY INDENTIFY ANY WAYS OF HELPING THEM REACH THE STANDARD AGREED. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU A TRYING TO BE A CWU REP. TRY WORKING WITH YOUR MANAGER TO IMPROVE STANDARDS IN YOUR WORKPLACE. ESPECIALLY INDOOR WORKLOAD WHERE A MINORITY OF POSTIES SEEM TO THINK IT IS A SOCIAL CLUB

Re: 1 Minute Prep Test
If his manager was interested in working with the WPC to improve standards he would really have informed him first about any applicable testing that he was considering and discussed the best way forward.RealDeal69 wrote: TRY WORKING WITH YOUR MANAGER TO IMPROVE STANDARDS IN YOUR WORKPLACE.
Testing experienced members of staff without a valid reason is simply childish harassment...and turn the caps lock off you're giving me a headache.

Much better -realdeal69 wrote:As a workplace coach your job is to coach any member of staff that may require coaching in any task that they may not be reaching the standards required, any indentify any ways of helping them reach the standard agreed. Nice idea but souldn't managment make the first step and advise him of what is happening, come up with a joint plan and then if necessary do the testing with him - Doing the tests on his day off and not previously discussing it with him not only undermines the coach through no fault of their own, it also destroys any credibility that managrs are doing it for the benefit of the office, rather than the benefit of their bonus or credibility with their bosses.realdeal69 wrote:Try working with your manager
I am really not sure how you can work with the bosses when they pull a stunt like this behind their back, and if people are using the IPs time as a social club then thats managments task to bring them to book and deal with it sensibly and doing a 1 minute test will address that not one iota. Man management and personal interaction would gain far better results but we all know RMs track record on that.
