How does the 4 day week work?

We've been told this may be an option at our office. was wondering how it works. Is it 4 days on then 3 days off. Or is it 4 days on 4 days off. Do you get the same days off each week? Anyone on here already doing it? Any info on day off patterns would be appreciated. cheers.

Our PHG's used to work a 4 day week but never the delivery staff.
It worked pretty much the same way:
Week 1 - off Mon/Tues
Week 2 - off Weds/Thurs
Week 3 - Off Fri/Sat then going into week 4 off Mon/Tues.
So every 3 weeks off Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues.
Obviously the days you work have to be longer to make up the 40 hours/week.

Thanks for that clash. I see how it works now. Not quite how I imagined, but sounds good to me. Bit like a rotating day off then but you get 2 days off grouped together. So is this what Dingo is on about when he talks about us having the possibility of 1 in 3 saturdays off from this new agreement?

At our spot the 4 dayers start at 5am ish and finish around 3pm ish. Usually they do a round and a half each.

I would say they are probably out for 5 hours delivering. They prep a delivery each then team up to do the other one. All 3 walks are within walking distance from the office so they can come back to collect more mail or take a piss etc.

shared vans, no day off covers, and the lighter days (mon and sat) sort out as either sa for 7and a half hours each day or arrange some 15hr contracts
no shortage of people to take these up as you still get all your benefits if you work less than 16hrs a week.

We always have problems covering rounds on Saturdays.Dom Came up with bright new idea that would solve this problem and slash overtime on Saturdays.
Get Saturday only staff -Great.
First Saturday we were flooded with staff.
Week by week they dropped like flys.Now we have 2 guys left who are on Saturday only contracts but want full time jobs.They work full time,get messed around something bad but holidays are olny based upon Saturdays.

What makes you think the people on the Social wIll want to get up and work for RM under the conditions we work now let alone longer deliveries and longer Saturdays.

Yeah lets get rid of cover men ,more job losses ,but it could affect you,not all cover men are new comers ,some have quite a bit of seniority,and choose to be cover men as it suits them.So what happens if a cover man has more seniority than you who GOES?

it wouldn't work everywhere, but each and every delivery rep WILL be approached by management to make savings in the next financial year. It could be used as an enabler, and if you have a mixture of Scheduled Attendances and 15 or 16hr contracts....... anyway, it was just a thought as to how a 4 day week could be acheived - i dont even work in a delivery unit.
