I find that very hard to believe, Diesel and insurance alone would cost more than that, A Renault traffic costs well over a pound per mile to run, a courier I know can do over 200 miles a day, that would mean you having to do a minimum of 400 drops !! just to break even

HDNL down my way, today one guy told me they get £1.00 per parcel,a while back another one told me 50p.
Whatever way you look at it,it's crap.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Believe me, it's all true folks.

Yes, some of our parcels are classed as Heavy (up to 17.1 kg) or Heavy/Large and we receive 85p or £1 for these, but most of our work is at the standard rate of 45p. Companies we deliver for (including Next, Debenham's etc.) even push a whole order into one bag. I've often delivered a bag with 6 or more boxes of trainers or heavy bed linen in it for 45p. They stuff up to 3 hanging garments in one shroud for 45p. QVC band 3 or 4 boxes together for 45p. We deliver lawn mowers, pressure washers, microwaves, tv's, garden furniture, flat packs for ..... 45p.

I started with them in 2000 when they were Parcelnet and the rate then was .... you guessed it ..... 45p! Not a penny more in 10 years even though our costs are going through the roof. I myself make very little profit from the job but only carry on because a) I'm getting old now, b) I don't need as much money as I used to and c) I like doing the job, open air and all that. How the younger one's with families manage is beyond me.

However, I think their days nay be numbered. HMRC are doing an investigation into their work practices, a number of EAT tribunals have been won over the same issues and the Daily Mirror is doing it's own investigation. They are finding it extremely difficult to get cover couriers to do rounds when the main courier is off, despite their constant cries of, 'There are thousands waiting in the wings for your jobs.' Time will tell!

As a last point, it beggars belief how customers can be charged £4 (or even up to £10 or more with QVC) for delivery when all the courier gets is 45 f*cking pence!

(Oh, by the way, some couriers do what are called 'Rural' rounds and get about 20p more per parcel for the increased mileage etc. Most town rounds are compact but you can still easily do 30 -40 miles per day, stop-start).
The other side of the coin (very enlightening!) ...

The numpty did put a card through the door though informing me that the parcel was there! Now I live in cumbria and as you'll be aware we're on flood alert up here at the moment. I have a few problems with doorstepping. My front door is not a secure location so anything left could get knicked and secondly it's open to the elements. So why has this numpty left a parcel on my doorstep knowing exactly that it could get knicked or piss wet through (which it did) and why do it when we're on flood alert knowing fullwell that another load of rain is on it's way! It's unbelievable.

This is the second time these clowns have ruined something or lost something. The first time they put a card through my door telling me they'd thrown a parcel over the gate!(which is 6ft high)

Anyhow I've contacted Books Direct and told them I'm cancelling my membership with them because they use such a crap courier, who can't be trusted.

Hermes couriers congratulations you are now crowned as crapper than home delivey network!
only problem with reporting hermes for doorstepping etc is that unlike royal mail they don't have postcomm or a regulator who is hell bent on destroying them , they are the "competition" and therefore rules don't apply to them
