Forcing me to use my car to other office.

I have just had a call on my dayy off from a dom.Asking me to go to another office tomorrow,i said that is fine i will be at my usual office at 9am,a discussion then started in which he pointed out to me that i work for royal mail and they can make me take my car to another office as they are paying mileage.I stuck to my guns and he implied if i come to my usual office in morning and do not follow through with the "reasonable request" i will be in trouble.

Now he seems very confident that i am in the wrong but i have read on here alot on this subject and i was under the impression they need to provide me with transport,i even satated my car insurance is not covered etc but he said it was?

your car insurance should cover you to travel to and from work no matter where your place of work is

so is there any agreements on this matter, many members in my office are being forced to use their own cars to travel to others offices based on operational needs and the distance of other offices is the same as parent office.

car insurances covers you from your Home to your normal contracted place of work.

if you are going to different delivery offices you will need business cover added to your insurance. ( I have this due to being a rep )

you are right in what you say, you start at your home office at your normal start time, and if they want you to work elsewhere, they must either give you a van to take with you OR transport you there and also transport you back to your home office to arrive at just before your finish time ( if you have had your full meal breaks )

don't let your dom bully you into using your car to go to another office.

even if you are not in the Union, ( join it ) the same rules apply across RM.

and unless they have class 1 business use on their insurance they are NOT covered to drive their own vehicle to another place of work.

Before suggesting he gets suspended I would look at his contract of employment.
If he is employed as an Area reserve then his office is where they say it is.
He doesn't have to drive there but he does have to be at work on time.

While you might all have contracts that stipulate your parent office, not everybody does.

I have just transfered from another office and as such have not got a new contract through post yet,but the contract i have says i may be required to work in nearby offices but it says nothing about transport.My fixed term contract is due to end at the end of this month so i should get something soon either way.The thing is i am not even in the union,i filled a form in and handed it to the union rep at my prvious office but have never had payments taken or any confirmation of being a member.

I have just filled in a form from the web and emailed it off so hopefully will be a member soon.There is no rep at our office at the moment either so looks like i am going to be on my own in morning when facing the angry doms.

Just make your rep is going to be on site at 9 am when you arrive at your home do.

Then call the area rep and make sure he is going to be there or he gets someone to represent him there ie rep from another office
