Hello there,
For the last few weeks there have been 20+ casuals in our MC doing 8 hour shifts yet we've been putting down for overtime and getting none whatsoever. Spoke to numerous reps they don't seem to know what the deal is with cwu and casuals. It used to be if there's casuals in you can come in but the managers claim this isn't the case. Anyone got any info on this?
Cheers

Re: Casuals
at our mc every shift has an abundance of casuals..30-40 on late shift...30-40 on night shift..some permanently on ilsms, and it doesnt seem to be getting any better! all staff however are still performing lots of overtime...you will need your reps to do some research! good luck.

Re: Casuals
Who are these 'casuals' you're talking about.............I've heard rumours about them but never seen them, same thing with canteens and 1 hour breaks

Re: Casuals
Will casuals be classed as full or part time I wonder and how do they figure in the resource plan, how frequently are they used, is it just mail centres - perhaps these are the sort of questions we should be asking the union and they should be asking RM.

Re: Casuals
The thing is though the MC is shutting soon so they have lost all the work apart from DSA. On a typical late shift there are 20-25 casuals with 2-3 rm staff. All the other staff have gone over to the new MC (including reps) I've only got a 2 day duty along with 10 others Yet the casuals are working Mon - Sat! Just doesn't seem right

Re: Casuals
Not alot at all. Spoke to area rep, he said he'd look into it, was about 2 weeks ago - heard nothing back and can't get in contact with him. Spoke to 2 other reps they don't seem to care tbh it seems like we've been forgoton about.dvbuk55 wrote:And the union say..............................?Chris321 wrote:The thing is though the MC is shutting soon so they have lost all the work apart from DSA. Re: Casuals
your mail centre is closing soon.
i imagine a lot of staff have already jumped ship ie taken up roles elsewhere
these casuals will enable the place to run right up to the last possible moment with the minimum of full timers left at the finish.
a staggered progression of people leaving is easier to organize and facilitates a smooth handover.
I don't however see why you cant score some overtime your overtime hours are probably not more than agency rates.

Re: Casuals
We've got loads of casuals somenights as well, probably to get wcm to work. For every MC round the country it can only be a matter of time before higher up management say to the MCMs "right your not allowed any casuals on any shift for any reason" as it must be costing rm a fortune as technically there is no such thing as a casual now, they're all agency, so RM is paying agency rates

Re: Casuals
When you say RM is paying agency rates is it not the case that RM are using ANGARD AGENCY and in effect paying themselves.SpacePhoenix wrote:We've got loads of casuals somenights as well, probably to get wcm to work.
