Cut Off Packets today...

OK, so today i was asked if I could go to another office today as they were short on drivers. No problem. Normally start at 9am but they asked could I do an hours overtime and come in early for 8am. No problem.

Got to the office and the duty was partly prepped so I had to prep the rest of it myself, the duty was new to me so it took me longer then another duty would but I still managed ok.

Manager says to me 'oh also you are taking this guy out on his duty and dropping his bags for him too. At this point Im thinking hmmmm ok i dont know this area at all and no one has shown me the walk before, but I'll play it by ear and see what time we head out.

I was then informed we are lapsing today also.

Anyway, come 10am I'm prepped and ready to start loading my van. The guy next to me however still isnt ready as he hasnt done his walk before either so isnt sure how the best way to tie it up. I then say to the manager, i might struggle to finish today, what with not knowing the area or my duty or the other guys bag drop points. Manager says ok and walks off.

10:30am we still have not left the office and are only just getting our lapse together. manager comes over and says 'hey darren, priority is the mail so even if you have to bring every single packet back, just makesure the mail is done plus ya specials. i said ok thats cool.

finally 11am we've done the lapse and ive started my walk. i struggled all the way thru it, not knowing the area or the duty at all but i managed to get my specials and all the mail done bang on 2pm mark. but literally a ton of packets from both my and the other guys walk didnt get done, plus i think maybe 4 recordeds.

got back to office and left remaining parcels on frame. went home.

i feel bad cos there was alot of packets left but i really did try my best. did i do the right thing???

i really did try, i wasnt trying it on or anything, i dont know the area at all and literally was going by a half arsed drawn map. as for the other guys bag drops, i found them pure by chance tbh.

in fairness im meant to be shown walks prior if they are new, especially if im driving and driving someone else too right??? well in my usual office theyve always shown me a drive prior if its new.

i think you did well enough to even complete everything else! as for making you lapse aswell, takin the piss! all driving duties need at least a day to be shown round.

i literally burned my arse off getting round it, my legs kill now lol...literally i had one sack of packets alone just for one road...about 15 packets in that sack...i worked bang until 2pm, and didnt leave office until 2:30pm and i doubt ill get paid that too...just dont wanna be done for wilfull delay or anything ya know...cos well i bloody tried!!!

Resourcing is a management problem not yours.

i know what you mean. i just did my best to makesure the mail was done and the specials. well i did try and find someone. no such luck as office was locked. also i dont have mobile number as im not from that office so only had the main office number.

One question, how did you agree to lapse if you didn't have time to finish your designated duty ?????? Yet again more RM abuse of willing employees ....

well the guy who i was taking out was doing his lapse, and mine was a road down from his so i didnt have much choice really as i had to wait for him to drop him off on his duty after so had to do my lapse really...bit crap i know

well my main office hasnt started p/l yet. though the office i went to today has and they are still doing lapsing too. i dunno really. i dont think anyone knows whats what anymore.
