not a lot because we will still be in saturday (and sunday) to deliver parcels.

The only parcels likely to go anywhere on a Saturday would be be first class over a shoebox size and Tracked. This is about saving money so they're not going to have you carrying Chinese and Ebay tat.
The only parcels going anywhere on a Sunday would be premium.

It may be they go for a bespoke weekend operation with it's own staff taken from volunteers and new recruits.
However it pans out very few of us will be in Saturday or Sunday unless we volunteer.
Screw the reserves?

Any redundancies will very likely be voluntary.
How will it screw the reserves?

by default, if the duty holder is working mon-fri with every wkend off,you dont need any reserves in the office, you cant have a 30 hour reserve making up those amount of hours on just a sat/sun shift.

It does not mean that 'reserves' will all suddenly get the sack! It does not work that way!

As per what Walsh said in the other thread which does not make sense if Sat is scrapped.

What they mean is they will get rid of 1 in 6 job's just because the guy/girl is a reserve does not mean they will go first it will be people who don't drive and with the least seniority and volunteers but who said it will be Saturday and you will no longer have your own walk but a rotation of walks. And more mail everyday to deliver in possibly less time so it is not all great is it might sound great but After the deal of the century and way forward agreement would rather still be doing six days a week with the same terms conditions and hassle free life of 25 years ago!

I dont drive why should I be targeted - been doing this job for 20+ years some people 30+ 40 years service who dont drive - because you didnt have to!!
Only the last 10 years or less the jobs advertised you must have driving!
why should we go first when we`ve doing the job longer than some new starters who weren't even born when some of us joined! :thumbdown

What if RM were to start moving DOs (or merging DOs) to sites that are away from the area covered by the DO? HCT deliveries wouldn't be viable. There's also the problem if one day due to a combination of sick and annual leave, you end up with not enough drivers. As parcels and Tracked pick up more and more it's going to reach a point where RM will probably be forced to insist on everyone in DOs being drivers as it'll reach a point where every walk requires its own van

If it gets that bad we non drivers would have to learn to drive. It can't be that hard to learn.
some of the idiots - sorry - drivers I've had over the years are Psychos or haven't got a clue how to drive properly

The reserves will still be needed, one rotating day off per week as quoted earlier means you would deliver letters and packets etc as normal 4 days in the week and have a parcel round to complete on the Saturday or possibly Sunday (With the Saturday off instead). The work during the week would probably mean 5+ hour delivery (1st to last letter) with maybe a shorter attendance on the Saturday or Sunday as it will be only parcels. This would allow all staff to remain with no compulsory redundancies.

A lot of money can be saved by RM from moving to the proposed Monday to Friday service not least the £1500 per annum pay cut where staff currently receive the RRIS payment. Obviously not as many cost savings if we moved to the every other day delivery system deployed by many other countries but that idea is unlikely to go ahead.
The start date of April 2022 has been suggested as the start date for this change to our delivery structure. There will not be a need for redundancies as enough staff leave annually to cover most of the reduction with the remainder being moved to other nearby offices where more jobs will be made such as at LAT hubs. Unlikely we will be working on Saturdays and highly unlikely we will start delivering on Sundays.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.
