The football legend said the employees are fans of Manchester City and he regularly has friendly banter with them
Sir Alex Ferguson said Ronaldo was "getting better" - and he was emphatically proved right
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he has been winding up staff at his post office about Manchester United signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
The football legend said the female employees are fans of Manchester City and he regularly has friendly banter with them.
He told how one woman who works at the post office in Wilmslow, Cheshire, was giving him stick when it looked as though Ronaldo would join United’s city rivals.
The Scot warned her not to be too sure and then went back in to gloat when the Portuguese superstar rejoined the Old Trafford club last month.
The 79-year-old managed Ronaldo for six years at United and was said to have personally called him to convince him to return.
Ferguson said: “At the post office, behind that grille, the girls are City fans and I hammer them.
“When I went in the girl Sue says to me: ‘Ah, we’ve got Ronaldo, you must be sick as a pig’ and I said: ‘Don’t hatch your eggs now.’
“When I went back in she was hiding, she wouldn’t come out. I said, ‘Get her out, get her out!’ That was really good fun.”
He added: “There’s another girl who works in the shop at the post office and I came in one day and she was standing at the front door kissing her boyfriend.
“I said ‘You never know what you’ll get off that kiss by the way,’ because it was from a City fan.”
Speaking on the official Manchester United podcast, Ferguson also told how he is rarely bothered by members of the public when out and about.
He said: “Nobody bothers me in Wilmslow.
“I go to the wee coffee bars, there are two or three I like to go to. I go to Marks and Spencer, the garage and the Tesco.
“I still drive myself in Wilmslow but if I’m going anywhere further I get a driver.
“My age has got a lot to do with it. Nobody wants to bother an old man do they? I’m 80 in December.
“I have been lucky in terms of my retirement.”
The Glaswegian retired from the Old Trafford hot seat in May 2013 after 27 years at the helm during which time he won 38 trophies, including two Champions League titles.
He had emergency treatment on a brain haemorrhage in May 2018 and spent several days in intensive care at Salford Royal Hospital, near Manchester.
In 2019 he raised £400,000 for the NHS as a thank you for the care that he received during his health scare.

"Employers are always seeking more productivity from workers, without considering the human factor, the worker's age, the weather conditions and the intense heat. We need to intervene before it's too late, reducing working hours and the load carried by workers, because it's impossible to sustain the rhythm they're forced to work at for many years."

I stood behind Alex in a BP garage at Charlton, for the record he was really tall.
It was the day he had bought Andy Cole and he was at our place for a youth match, I was getting my lottery.
I did not win, and Charlton did not win.
Same o same o.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
