New Import Rules?

Post by Grateful »

Hi all, Happy New Year! 😁

I wonder if anybody can give me a definitive answer to 2 questions I have please.

1) My friend in France wants to send me a small picture (without a frame) he has done for me (less than A4 size) as a gift obviously. Will it fall foul of any new legislation brought in on 1st January? Are any special forms now needed for gifts?

2) I bought a package from America on 23rd December and it got snarled up in the Christmas / New Year post. It has finally made it to Chicago Airport so should be on its way over here soon.

I know that when the new import rules were supposed to have been brought in last January (2021) it was clearly stated that anything bought and posted before 31st December 2020 would be allowed in under the old rules, even if it arrived in the UK during January 2021.

Does the same apply now the rules have been finally introduced on 1st January 2022? Will goods already in transit before this date be allowed in under the old rules?

Thanks for any help 😁

That's quite a technical question, probably one most delivery or Mail centre Posties won't be able to give an informed response to. It might be best to contact an official Royal Mail site if you need a quick response.
