We strongly advise not to send items to destinations listed as 'On suspension'.

Welcome to our international incident bulletin; a round up of any issues which may be affecting mail services to and from countries around the world. We keep this information as up-to-date as possible, with information supplied to Royal Mail by the various foreign national postal authorities.

Service Update
Items are leaving the UK for all overseas destinations on time. We're working with our airline and postal/courier partners to maintain services across the globe, however delays should be expected as a result of ongoing COVID-19 reduction measures and reduced air transport capacity. Items to some EU destinations are also experiencing customs delays. This is the result of changes to the EU’s VAT rules for items from non-EU destinations from 1st July. If you are an international business contract customer and you have signed up for the EU's Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) or if you are sending items via an IOSS registered marketplace, you need to enter your IOSS registration number to each item in the pre-advice to reduce delays. You can find out more about how we can help you start, or continue, trading from Great Britain into the EU using IOSS by clicking here . Signatures on delivery may also not be available in many countries due to social distancing requirements. Please see individual country listings for any exceptions or special measures which may cause in-country disruption.

Since 1 January 2021, customers need to complete and attach a customs declaration (CN22 or CN23) when sending goods to all destinations abroad. Otherwise items may be delayed or returned. To avoid delays/returns due to customs compliance please see our help pages: For personal customers, and for business customers. For international business contract customers, electronic customs data is mandatory and items without data may be delayed or returned. Find out how to become data compliant by clicking here

Please note: Each destination is responsible for setting their own import controls on restricted goods. Customers are advised to identify whether items being imported into a specific destination will require licences/certificates or incur additional charges. To identify specific Country requirements, please visit our individual country pages

Important Update
We have been advised by Poste Italiane that severe delays are still being experienced in processing postal items due to serious IT problems in Italian customs. This is still affecting all postal shipments from outside the EU. Although we are continuing to process and despatch items to Italy at the moment, due to these technical issues being experienced once they arrive they currently face delays of at least several weeks before being processed by customs and delivered by Poste Italiane. We are in constant dialogue with Poste Italiane but they have so far been unable to give us a date when these issues will be resolved. These issues are affecting all Royal Mail international parcel services. Therefore, as of 22nd December, we are changing our advice to strongly recommend you do not post items to Italy until Poste Italiane have made substantial progress in clearing the backlog. We currently anticipate that will be early in the New Year. They have assured us that they have a plan in place, we will be monitoring it very closely, and will update further when we are comfortable that your items will be processed and delivered within normal timescales.

Since January 1st 2021, customers need to complete and attach a customs declaration (CN22 or CN23) when sending goods to all destinations abroad.

Important Updates
Italy Customs delays

HS Code Update January 2022
On January 1st 2022, the World Customs Organisation (WCO), an independent intergovernmental body that serves as the voice of the customs community, implemented the 7th edition of its Harmonised System. This means the data requirements will change in areas including HS codes and duty and VAT rates, as well as having implications for prohibited and restricted goods screening. For a full-list of updates please visit Gov.uk or visit HMRC Trade Tariff tool ; for more information, in order to minimise delays through customs or items being returned to sender.

We strongly advise not to send items to destinations listed as 'On suspension'.
