Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 December 2021

Weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday 11 December. There are no collections on Sunday 12 December.

Most of our Customer Service Points are open Saturday and Sunday for you to collect urgent items for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card – please visit Services Near You Opens in new window for their opening times.

Deliveries today
Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as COVID-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted here:

Movement of mail through our network
Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK. Here we let you know about any significant issues in our logistics operation.

Air
Capacity issues at East Midlands airport last night meant not all mail was able to travel on the scheduled flight to Belfast and was transported via the surface network. As a result, some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today in Northern Ireland, may arrive later than planned.

The flight from Stansted airport to Edinburgh was delayed taking off last night due to technical issues with the aircraft. Mail was collected by special services, however it's likely some mail posted yesterday in London, the South of England and Northern Ireland, due for delivery today in Central and Southern Scotland may arrive later than planned.

Similarly, the return leg flight from Edinburgh airport to Stansted was delayed taking off due to the above technical issue. As a result, some mail posted in Central and Southern Scotland yesterday, due for delivery today in London, the South of England and Northern Ireland, may arrive later than expected.

Rail
The train travelling from Newcastle Mail Centre to London's Princess Royal Distribution Centre last night was delayed behind a passenger train involved in a fatality. As a result, some mail posted in the North East of England yesterday, due for delivery today in parts of London and the South East may be delayed.

Road
Our road network operated to schedule over the last 24-hours.

Mail Centres
The mail centre below reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the past 24 hours, and as a result may be delivered slightly later than expected.

COVID-19 Test Kits

Every day we service hundreds of thousands of test kits on behalf of the NHS. We’ve been in regular contact with the Department for Health and Social Care regarding the increased demand for test kits and are extending our capacity to help manage this at their request. We continue to prioritise NHS test kits for delivery and collection, including additional collections at our network of priority postboxes.

Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK. Here we let you know about any significant issues in our logistics operation.

Air
Last night the scheduled flight from Stanstead to Belfast was cancelled, due to a technical fault with the aircraft. This meant the mail scheduled on the flight was forwarded via the surface network. As a result, some mail posted in London and the South of England yesterday, due for delivery today in the BT postcode area may arrive later than planned.

Rail
Our rail network operated to schedule over the last 24 hours.

Road
Our road network operated to schedule over the last 24 hours.

Mail Centres
The mail centres below reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the weekend, and as a result may be delivered slightly later than expected.

Chester Mail Centre: Some mail posted in other parts of the UK on yesterday, due for delivery today to addresses in the CH, LL and SY postcode areas.

Collection Services in the Hereford (HR3, HR5 and HR9) areas

We're sorry to advise, resourcing issues at our Hereford Collections hub mean we may not be able to collect mail from customers in the HR3, HR5 and HR9 postcode areas today, Wednesday 29 December, and possibly for the rest of this week.

If you're in Hereford and have urgent mail to post, please take it, along with your paperwork, to our Hereford Delivery Office at Station Approach, Hereford HR1 1AA before 5.30pm.

For customers in Ross on Wye (HR9), our driver will be available to take your mail at: the Maltings Post Office, 13 The Maltings, Ross on Wye, HR9 7YB at 4.50pm, and the Postbox at Ross on Wye Delivery Office at Alton Road, Ross On Wye, HR9 5BW at 5.50pm.

Normal deliveries and collections resume on 4 January 2022, with the exception of Scotland due to a Public Holiday.

Movement of mail through our network

Our rail network operated to schedule over the last 24 hours.

Road

Mail Centres
The mail centres below reported not all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the weekend, and as a result may be delivered slightly later than expected.

Chester Mail Centre: Some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today to addresses in the CH, LL and SY postcode areas.

Romford Mail Centre: Some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today to addresses in the E, IG and RM postcode areas.

"Employers are always seeking more productivity from workers, without considering the human factor, the worker's age, the weather conditions and the intense heat. We need to intervene before it's too late, reducing working hours and the load carried by workers, because it's impossible to sustain the rhythm they're forced to work at for many years."
