That's encouraging at least, cheers! Hopefully I get the call from Angard soon...Barnacle wrote: ↑29 Jul 2024, 17:08Angard: yes absolutely. That’s a common route into the job. You would start off doing random things then at some point start covering walks and then Christmas is fast approaching and that’s when agency staff end up being offered a permanent position.mw98 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2024, 17:00How am I supposed to know how RM expect people to act in unusual situations until I get some training though? I'd be good at the job and know what it entails. I've been a good employee everywhere including in a delivery role before. Seems mad that at my local DO in particular they are desparate for staff but are barring entry for good potential employees based on a fairly redundant set of scenarios. Really getting me down to be honest have wanted to be a postie for a long time. I've signed up for Angard, anyone know if agency staff every get the opportunity to move onto permanent contracts?Tman wrote: ↑29 Jul 2024, 16:25It's not supposed to be a test of anything on the job, but an indication of how you react to unusual situations without explicit instructions.
Having said that, it's RM, so probably the cheapest generic test they could find but with a few words like "letters" "parcels" and addresses" then included by RM.

If it makes you feel better I can guarantee that none of RM long standing posties would pass this test

The test is kind of stupid when Royal Mail struggle to get staff and lose staff regularly...
Not sure how long the interviews are these days, but all they need to do is get you to come in, explain the job, show you around and have a friendly on-on-one conversation to see if you can string 2 sentences together. Then the next day offer you the job if you were sane, coherent and interested.
My interview a few years back was 30 minutes of questions.... one of which was 'Give me an example of a time you helped improve the way things were done in a previous job with a new idea, such as improving the companies productivity/efficiency'....... years later...
I raised a relevant point at work and the managers just started an argument with me. It made me laugh. They ask these questions at interview and then when you try to improve productivity you are treated with hostility.

They still ask that question. They haven’t changed the interview questions in years and years.norris9 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2024, 16:43The test is kind of stupid when Royal Mail struggle to get staff and lose staff regularly...

’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

I know, it's a bit of a joke really, iirc at my interview there was lots of questions about my experience of and ability to work as part of a team, meanwhile back at the do it's every man for himself.Barnacle wrote: ↑30 Jul 2024, 16:58They still ask that question. You mean they might still ask the question of "what's missing from this bike?" when showing a sketch of a bike with no chain, or the "which direction would the smoke go from this ship when sailing into the wind?" questions?
Then there's the "do you know anyone who works for RM" question.

Re: Passing the online test
Went into the job centre and they said my local DO is desperate for staff and are hiring 10 people. There’s also a £1500 welcome bonus.
They are giving those on universal credit interviews without having to complete the test. No wonder I’m struggling to get in! But apparently they can’t do anything for me as I’m not on universal credit…
For a company apparently desperate for staff they sure are making it hard for willing applicants to get a job!

High turnover of staff is probably a good thing for massaging the figures for the 'Business' at this point. This type of thing used to be a bad look back in the day.
