Shifts dropping off

Post by 2chorizon »

It seems the workload at my MC is dropping off considerably over the last week, the last of the xmas casuals have been finished up, a large percentage have switched over to Angards.

I can't see there being many shifts for long term angards for a few months as these new starts will be sent in first (on the lower pay rate for 12 weeks)

I fear a return to the old "couple of shifts a week" scenario after what has been a very lucrative year for picking up as many shifts as people wanted.

Anyone else seeing the same at their MC?

It seems quite busy still at my MC.

I volunteered to work on COVID-29 Home Test Kit packets so there’s always shifts on that task so very few want to go near tge things.

None of our Far Eastern colleagues will do the work, nor any from the African continent.

There seems to be less shifts on offer at medway mail centre.
Xmas casuals finished last week, some transferred to angard, also firstcall agency workers there as well.
Shifts for angard staff being cancelled.

I don't think we've had so many agency/Angard/casuals in over the last week. Work loads suddenly dropped off about a week ago

Amazon have opened a new fulfilment centre in our area so we have seen volumes of Amazon Tracked/Delivered packets drop substantially these last couple of weeks. Angard staff were being offered nearly every night for the last few months but now it’s back to 2-3 a week. We are still busier than we’d normally be in January because of Covid, but nothing like the last lockdown. Amazon Tracked was a huge part of our workload so losing about 50% of it makes a huge difference!

Leeds MC is still very busy and we are still getting shifts, a lot of people booked in all week next week. Around 140 people from Casuals have moved to Angard from here, surprisingly still getting shifts daily here

Gone busy again at medway mail centre. Never seen so much heavy & large, apparently people being paid at the end of january have caused it ! They need a bigger mail centre. Lots of angard casuals there this week.

Just wanted to check up and see how many people still get shifts. At Leeds MC bit quiet but seem to be at least 50-100 staff during a 2-6 shift or 2-10. Only 4 people for 2-6 just this past Friday which was quite shocking. I do still get 4-5 shifts a week since post Christmas so I’m wondering if people are getting similar shifts a week or none
As shops have reopened do you think it’ll still be busy next few months or will it be similar to now?

Many thanks

Shifts have been slashed as the mail volumes have fallen in my MC.
Will be cut further next week given the further fall in volumes at the end of the week.
Back to pre-covid volumes now

Since lockdown has eased has kinda ruined it but I think each MC is different as still agency staff including myself still getting 4-5 shifts a week even for next week so I think each MC varies in mail volume but hope for the best for everyone and hopefully picks up again in the next few weeks or months

Our mail centre has been very quiet this last week. I was only offered one weeknight shift and Saturday night. Most Angard staff are getting offered two shifts maximum. The previous week I was offered five shifts so there really has been a drop in mail volumes (and possibly less RM staff absent too).

Pre covid this time of year was always quieter and it would start to pick up again around September
