Pictures show staff loading and unloading parcels during a downpour

Hermes has confirmed it is investigating after images emerged of packages exposed to heavy rain at a Sussex depot.

Staff at Ponswood Industrial Estate in Hastings were seen loading uncovered cages, with many parcels appearing to become wet and apparently damaged as a result.

The photos were taken by a passerby who then shared them on a Hastings group on Facebook.

In the post they said: "Anyone using Hermes, you might want to make sure your parcels are wrapped to make them waterproof."

They added: "They seem to have set up a new sorting depot in Ponswood Industrial Estate, loading and unloading parcels outside in the heavy rain (poor souls doing the loading).

"Well done Hermes."

SussexLive approached the delivery company regarding the photos, who said it was investigating the circumstances in which they were taken.

A spokesman for Hermes said: "We will investigate this to clarify exactly what is happening in these photos.

"Our local teams are working hard to ensure a good service during these challenging times."

Any NSR parcel should be waterproof. Most of Hermes deliveries are NSR.

I see this every day when I go to work all the Van's at the Amazon depot are parked on the path along side the road with bags of parcels with all the courier drivers heads burrowing inside them wether its raining or not and even the last lockdown we had and all the shite about social distancing? definitely wasn't no social distancing going on there :hmmmm and even now I'll pass them on the paths outside their depot (actually blocking the paths) and nobody says a damn thing? :arrrghhh
